If their son couldn't help them but was busy helping himself & those who wanted him to remain in power to their own adbantage, what else do they expect? I really pity the people, even the elites among them that ought to reason together & bargain for developmental projects were busy building businesses and private university at the detriment of the common man . God have mercy .

Take it or leave it, these people are wreaking more havoc on their own environment than the oil companies.

Unfortunately there is a possibility that the oil companies and Nigerian government will recover from the loss of revenue but the damage to their environment will remain unabated for a long time to come.

Even the mumu commander self that was throwing diesel into the environment to avoid it from spoiling cars in the city doesn't know the impact of his actions.

Of course blame the victims. What ways are they wreaking more havoc? For years the government have neglected ND but yes, it's NDs fault the damages on our land, not the government. Typical

I bet you, if these resources were to be in the north, the story would have been different. Imagine they are not even oppressed and Boko Haram is misbehaving like this. Injustice on the Niger Delta is just too much and I blame their leaders primarily

Those "leaders" from the non-Igbo speaking parts of the Nigerdelta who journeyed to Kaduna in 1967 and begged former Northern region governor, Hassan Katsina, to beg the then HoS, Yakubu Gowon, to cut off the non-Igbo speaking parts of the old eastern region from Biafra, those "leaders" brought the present injustices and havoc to the Nigerdelta.

Immediately after those "leaders" journey to Kaduna, Cross River and Rivers State were created from Biafra by Gowon to balkanise Biafra. That was the main reason for Biafra collapse.

Immediately after, Northern people seized the billion dollars worth oil blocks in the Niger delta - till today.

People of ND regions are not interested in reconstruction or clean up. They are only interested in lifetime cash handouts. The sad part is when they brag about monthly stipend as if that's all they are worth.

Indirectly they brought all these upon themselves just for the hatred of the Igbo race. God has blessed the Igbos and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

No sir. No government since independence could be absolved from the ND problem. We lacked good framework from the beginning. Add our corruption to it and we have the monster that we see in the ND today. When I say our corruption, I mean the corruption at all levels from leaders at the centre, ND leaders, youth leaders, corrupt followers in ND and other areas of the nation.

Even when the oil companies are inclined to operate sustainably despite the lack of local frame work, it is our brother's that will tell them not to bother or that will go against company policy to shortchange the nation and the environment.

Bros, I can't fight or start any explanation about what I mean but No, I am not just blaming the victim alone. We all are culpable.

All the former head of states and the elites were only interested in the oil blocks they all stole but never cared about the standard of livings of the indigenes. This present government is busy stealing massively from NNPC and others, yet, they are not corrupt. As deadly as the place is, they are only after taken over Niger Delta for maximum stealing for their personal gains. In fact, all the foreign companies should be made to vacate the place by the locals since they prefer to pay governments officials and the chief to avert cleaning the place. Hopeless. The likes of Shell and others will tell you they operate the best practices which is big lie because as long as they are in Nigeria they will continue worse practice. On employment, politicians/rich will send to them people that struggle to make third class and next is they are sent abroad for training
against qualified ones with nobody at the top. Best practices indeed.

What happened to the PIB that is before the Senate that the almajiris up north refuse to put into law. This could have solve slot of issue when it comes to 13% derivative by taking it to the host communities. But this bills will never see day light instead u, re saying they should go and hold their governors and senators accountable. Have u been able to hold your state governor accountable how allocations in the state is spent?

Its a pity to see such devastation; however, a lot of the recent pollution is self inflicted through militancy pipeline bombing and criminal sabotage by sponsored gangs where the pipelines are breached to win clean up contracts for local business men.

Tell dem, o! shocked The greedy ND leaders and clueless ND militants, have turned the land, creeks and waterways within the region, into a cesspit. If the people living within the ND are the ones blowing up the pipelines and polluting their environment, what magic do they think the govt will do to improve the area overnight?

The resources that have been pumped into the ND region till date have disappeared into a few greedy hands. Think of all the "development levies," matching ground fees, community levy etc, that they keep demanding over and over - where does it go to? Including the 13% derivation fund... what has it been used for all these years? Even if you take all the money from the crude and give it to them, nothing will change, except their mindset changes! angry "He that is not faithful in little, can never be faithful when he gets much..." Na Bible talk am! shocked

Sharpshooota:
This is what you get when you site headquarters of oil companies in other regions...

It's not fair to the Niger delta
Stop that rawbbish please! angry The operational offices and massive housing estates of the oil firms, are situated firmly in the ND. Who are those polluting the environment of the ND, and turning it into a mess? Isn't it the ND militants, themselves? You want to make a mess of your environment, and expect outsiders to continue cleaning it up for you? Get real! sad

What has naija got to show for the balance 87%, how much is the 13% you guys keep harping on anyways, what Niger Delta needs is resource control and not that pocket change you call derivation.
True federalism and resource control is the panacea for development in the Niger Delta.
Keep qwayiet dia! angry They do not need additional resource control, because they have NOT been able to judiciously control and utilise all the ones they have been given over the years!

namio10:
That your 13% question should be answered by your fellow parasites.
Yes, the parasites of ND extraction (dwelling within the ND) should answer the question. undecided The ND residents continue to look on silently, while their ND militants and illegal bunkerers continue to pollute their environment, create hazardous living conditions for them, and destroy the creeks that are their sources of water, fishing and livelihood. Then they turn round to blame outsiders, when they themselves are the direct cause of their own woes! cheesy Niger-Delta is an interesting region!
