The bloodshed of July 29th was a direct response to the bloodshed of January 15th, 1966. The January bloodshed was absolutely unnecessary. It led to the July coup and the civil war. Nigeria would have been a far better and united country today without the misguided Igbo coup of January 15th.
lol...yorobanza logic....was it ohaneze that carried out the coup which made it an Igbo coup?

Was it the constituted leaders of the eastern region that carried out the coup which made it an igbo coup?

Wat percent of the igbo tribe was involved in that coup that made it an igbo coup?

The leader of the coup was from mid west region which was barely 2 years b4 the coup, part of the western region.

A group of soldiers led a failed coup, got inprisoned by aguiyi ironsi...and as aguiyi was trying to bring the country together, he was brutally murdered by northern soldiers who even started genocide against igbos...and somehow u feel u should defend this? Shame on u bro

I pity all these young people here in this 21st century who only know how to display tribal hatred in every post on Nairaland, these people think speaking or writing good English make them learned men
why not use these stories about our history to know that tribalism has never benefitted us in this country and find a way to make this country better, you blame the leaders but we the led aren't better.
none of you tribalists is aware that John parsons the British journalist was born with one functioning kidney and the Nigerian soldier who clubbed him injured the kidney that he had a transplant in 1981 but the new kidney later failed him and ultimately led to his death in 2004,try and educate yourselves f
I admire two seasoned posters on this forum in the form of explorers and royalblak007 their posts are always educative.shame to most mods here who allow these hatred to grow to these extent cos the word"moderator"means nothing to them.there is always a written warning when you want to post here about not making racist and tribalistic comments but they are allowed here plenty
Nairaland is a Nigerian forum and should unite not making us a laughing stock to foreign readers
I think this should go directly to those that keep posting historys of how they were massacred , playing victims and portray others as inhuman when it was not a one sided thing. Nairaland is seen all the world and it will be unfair if people keep seeing post like this and don't get to hear from the other side. So that they can go and to archives to find out the root causes. The problem here are those that keep posting such topics.
