Everywhere you look in Lagos there are motorcycle drivers waiting for passengers to hop on board. They're the backbone of public transport in Lagos and the fastest way to get around the state. The motorbike taxi popularly called Okada is used by all sectors of society.

Before now, the usual way of catching a motorcycle ride was to go to any street corner packed with tens of Okadas or simply waiting for one to pass by.

Right now, a startup, Metro Africa Xpress (MAX) through its service - MAX Okada is bringing this method of transport into the technological age by providing the ability to hail a motorcycle at the click of a button on a smartphone.

For now, the Uber-like startup which some people refer to as ‘ Nigeria’s uber for motorcycles’ operates mainly in Lagos, where a click on the MAX Okada app - in addition to the traditional method of street hailing them will bring you a yellow MAX Okada bike, complete with a uniformed driver in a yellow or black shirt and yellow helmet.

Since its inception in 2015, the fleet of drivers at MAX Okada has reached 300. It is common knowledge that there is a huge need for safe motorcycle riding in the congested streets of Lagos.
"When we train people and make them good, responsible and safety conscious drivers, we're definitely going to save lives on the long run," says Adetayo Bamiduro, one of the co-founders of Metro Africa Xpress (MAX). "But implementing this has been one of the challenges we are facing," he says about the difficulties in changing the mindsets of a population.

MAX is dreaming big, with plans to expand its services to over 1 billion Africans.

Iv been seeing such bikes around oshodi area, under the brudge. Those ones are green coloured though. Nice idea. Will like to see how this takes of in Nigeria.
