No fewer than 100 communities have been drown following overflows of the River Niger.

The overspill which is caused by continuous heavy downpour, has also rendered residents of the affected communities homeless.

According to reports, houses and farmland were also destroyed but no casualty was recorded.

During his visits to the affected communities, Niger state governor Abubakar Bello, promised on relocating the residents to a safer place.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA) has listed seven states which are likely to be affected by flood.

The states (Niger, Anambra, Kogi, Kebbi, Delta, Kwara and Bayelsa) according to the agency, are on the flood plain of River Niger.

It warned that the states might be at risk in the coming weeks as weather forecast shows a ruinous flooding.
