Siena And Others: Pleaseeeeeeeee Help by burla: 5:32pm On Jul 04, 2010
please i need advice, i dont know why i have to refill the gas of my car AC barely 2-3 months, i know thats abnormal at first i was told the gas is escaping cos the pipe had a leak but all the leaks have been blocked and i just had to recently refill the gas again, Is it possible for the gas to be drying up itself cos the guy that works on my AC says it may be that the gas is fake and it simply just vapourise after sometime, Please what can I do to solve this problem please Siena and all other auto engineers in the house pleasee help and one more thing my car really really overheats after being driven for some hours with the AC on, It doesn't overheat at all if I dont use the AC someone told me that I need to change my radiator to a bigger one as the car came with a single-cell radiator and it needs to be able to take more water to cool the engine and I want to know if simply just bringing out the radiator and washing it might work cos i think its dirty, i really dont know i need advice and solutions to these issues, thx alot!!!

The most possible cause of your R-134A running out after 2 months since being re-charged, is you have a major leak.

You say one of your high-pressure lines had a leak, but it's been "blocked". How was this done? The only solution to a leaking pipe is to replace it, or if at a joint, replace the o-rings, with the correct ones for aircon. These are usually green. R-134A is a very thin gas, and will find leaks in pipework that'll be gas-tight to other gases, like the older aircon gas R-12, or LPG.

It also helps to know the make, model and year of your car.

As for the overheating issue, please look at the other thread, about overheating cars, I'm making a detailed post there.

People ask for urgent help, yet when they get responses, they don't give any feedback, so we know if suggestions have worked or not. angry

Yes, the shame of it. And talking about A/Cs, that of my car(a BMW 5281) seems to have a mind of its own: it oscillates between cool air and fan air. When it decides to cool it could suddenly turn to fan air, especially if you press the throttle to increase the speed of the car, and its not as if the thermostat had seized working. Could it be that the thermostat or even the A/C switch is malfunctioning? Please let me have your take on this.

Obviously all the OP’s efforts at ensuring his/her vehicle has “cold AC” has proven to be futile. But refilling the Freon in your car every 2-3months is a clear indicator that your mechanic is a quack-----forget whatever he says unless you want to continue to hear “dem say, dem say” . It baffles me the sheer overdependence on non-professionals / roadside mechanics by anyone with a little bit sanity.

Solution: Bring your vehicle to a specialist in auto air-conditioning, capish
.
