So i put the complaints i have about my car in this thread [https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-375453.0.html] and got not the kind of responses i would have wanted,so i decided to create my own thread.Others with similar problems will definately gain more with a major thread isnt it? How i wish siena has a branch of his office in Nigeria BTW,I pulled the DTC off my car and viz a viz the diagnostics interpretation i got from this site http://www.scribd.com/doc/9571112/Ford-OBDII-codes#,i wrote the below[this same coils i changed 6 from last week : 0133 Oxygen sensor slow response[bank 1,sensor 1] 0138 Oxygen sensor circuit high voltage response[bank 1,sensor 2] 0158 Oxygen sensor circuit high voltage response[bank 2,sensor 2] 0171 system too lean [bank 1] 0351 ignition coil A primary/secondary circuit 0352 ignition coil B primary/secondary circuit 0353 ignition coil C primary/secondary circuit 0354 ignition coil D primary/secondary circuit 0355 ignition coil E primary/secondary circuit 0357 ignition coil G primary/secondary circuit 0358 ignition coil H primary/secondary circuit So what's the next step having in mind i just changed the injector and the coils?? |

check your messenger. I think you misunderstood me You should be using 5w-30, or 10w-30, most used 20w-50 I meant mistake most made was using the wrong oil weight(20w-50) Normal oil weight is 5w-30, or 10w-30 I use a V8 jeep and I have done this on a thread read https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-258780.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-334902.0.html They might look alike when in the can, but the flow different when car reaches operating temperature. 20w50 will get heavier when hot and not lubricate the engine properly. So 10w-30 is the ideal oil for NigeriaBut you have to chek your owner's manual to be sure Read this page http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html When I went to Naija this Xmas, I found out that Most gas stations had 20w-50 API CC on display and people were using it in their cars It should be 10w-30 API SM API CC is for diesel engines |

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-334902.0.html Thanks for the call and your intervention has been immense.I already reset the OBD and can't pull any error code afterwards i.e no error code is coming up,just showing DONE!. Also read some stuffs about TPS and IAC from here http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1js1t-what-does-the-tps-and-iac-do-my-car-is-having-difficulty ,quite helpful A quick question though, where is the oxygen sensor for this car(2001 Grand Cherokee) located and how is it related to the catalytic switch? What is it's function(s),is it more than 1 and how is it possible it's malfunctioning can culminate in emission of black smoke? Thanks once again and you my xmas gift albeit late. |

Good day Sultaan, Took the car for a ride today and these are the codes it came up with ; P0141 and P0161.Googled it and everything seems to be tending towards the 02 sensor as indicated by these forums: http://www.fixya.com/cars/t3385017-will_hollowed_catalytic_converter_cause http://www.fixya.com/cars/t3040619-2001_cherokee_4_0_6cyl_p0161_p0158_codes http://www.obd-codes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4960 Can you kindly respond to these questions and also let me know if the sensors are dude for change or can it be fixed?: where is the oxygen sensor for this car(2001 Grand Cherokee) located and how is it related to the catalytic switch? What is it's function(s),is it more than 1 and how is it possible it's malfunctioning can culminate in emission of black smoke? Thanks |

I took the car for a drive today and this is the code i pulled up.Everything seems to be pointing towards the oxygen sensors: P0141 (Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)) P0161 (Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)) P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2) P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1) P0158 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 2) Courtesy:http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=36045 Kindly respond to the questions i asked in my earlier post: where is the oxygen sensor for this car(2001 Grand Cherokee) located and how is it related to the catalytic switch? What is it's function(s),is it more than 1 and how is it possible it's malfunctioning can culminate in emission of black smoke? Do i change the sensors along with the catalyst switch now with this new error code coming up? I will appreciate if i can get a pictoral rep of this sensors too. Thanks a lot! |

Read this page http://www.wjjeeps.com/oxygen.htm Seems both sensors after catalytic converter is faulty, the measure exhaust gas to make sure your engine is not burning too much gas, too much hydrocarbon and it will add more O2 to system. You can have them pulled to see if its cloged with soot, or just change them.Part numbers are on the page.part # should be Bosch 13937 for the sensors. The ones before catalytic conveters are upstream, after converter is downstream. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalytic_converter http://www.obd-codes.com/p0141 Before you start changing sensors, look at this thread(check the fuse I had to change a sensor once cos of a 50cents fuse) http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=465162&highlight=p0141 Fuse box is in engine bay You mentioned a catalytic switch what I know is converter. You will see O2 sensors screwed to exhaust pipes with wires coming out of them(in small cars you probably see upstream sensor around heat shield i front of engine.

If you have drained the old AP oil and replaced both oil and oil filter with the recommended, then I suggest you get a rewire to reset your vehicle's brainbox. |
