Battle for Kemi Adeosun’s replacement begins in Ogun by dre11(m): 10:06pm On Sep 15, 2018
By Peter Moses,

The race for the immediate past Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun’s replacement has begun in Ogun State.

Adeosun’s resignation has created a vacuum in Federal Executive Council (FEC), which is expected to be filled by another person from her home state.

Each state of the federation has a statutory representative in the FEC.

Our reporter learnt the former Lagos Commissioner for Finance, Wale Edun and the Chairman of Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Bode Mustapha who were top contenders for the ministerial appointment in 2015 may succeed Adeosun who got the job, thanks to Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s backing.

It would also be recalled that the trio Edun, Mustapha and Adeosun were backed by different political forces during the battle for the ministerial job amid high-wire permutations and powerplay.

Informed sources said Edun was supported by former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu, Mustapha was the candidate of Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo while Amosun influenced the choice of Adeosun, who had served in his cabinet as Commissioner for Finance in the first term.

As at the time Adeosun’s name was sent for the ministerial appointment, she had equally been re-nominated as commissioner for finance in the state.

Amosun settled for Adeosun, who is seen as a technocrat as against Edun and Mustapha who are politicians and would likely turn against him, an insider said.

Mustapha who was the Director General of Amosun Campaign Organisation in 2015, believed he ought to have been supported by Amosun, a development which made him fell apart with the governor.

An impeccable source said Edun or Mustapha may be considered as likely replacement for Adeosun, even though, he pointed out that Amosun, like in 2015, may constitute a huge obstackle.

The source noted Buhari may not conceed the ministerial appointment to Amosun this time around “because this is election year and he may want to appease some aggrieved party. The President is not obliged to pick any of them because he has the prerogative to choose anybody.”

“And it maybe pick another person entirely,” the source said.

Responding to a question on whether Amosun can have his way this time around, “Don’t forget this is an election year. The President may use the ministerial appointment to settle some aggrieved party members. Another thing is that the President may not post whoever emerges to the Ministry of Finance.

“His support is not limited to Amosun alone. More so that the governor is no longer enjoying much support because of some crisis in the ruling party in the state over the consensus arrangement which he has adopted,” the source said.

The State Publicity Secretary of APC, Wole Elegbede declined comment, when contacted by our correspondent, saying “those in government are in the best position to comment on the issue.”

On his part, the State Commissioner for Information, Dayo Adeneye responded to a phone call from a noisy environment which he claimed to be a funeral.

The Commissioner requested a text message, which our correspondent did send on the subject matter.

Even you should be intelligent enough to know that another Ogun indigene will be picked to replace her in the cabinet even if not necessarily the ministry of finance

There are two positions vacant.

Appointments to ministries are at the prerogrative of the President. If he liked sef he can call up Seun to come and joins his cabinet and nobody can say shyyte about it.

FEC is a statutory makeup, an Ogun person must be seated.

Buhari is unsure about West regarding 2019. In past elections Yorubas are known for abandoning presidential candidate of the party they overwhelmingly elected at Local and State levels, so he is no fool...they are unpredictable in matters of politics and he would be very calculating and careful about this replacement. Moreso he demonstrated its doable in case of DSS.

Why Tinubu?
We should allow the Tinubu doctrine to work.

Tinubu created a first-generation commonwealth leadership that spans West. The underlying principle is to dispatch and put eggheads in positions of need throughout the region. So you can pick someone from Ekiti to be commissioner in Osun, someone in Osun to be commissioner in Lagos, someone in Ondo can be in Oyo and Oyo can serve in Ogun. So far its working well. This is why he kept reminding us that the regional service has not fully matured and voting another party is a risk as the principle can be destroyed. The first-generation leadership produced Fashola, Amosun, Ajimobi, Fayemi, Aregbesola and Akeredolu. They all served at one point or other in an incubation program in Lagos, led by Tinubu.

The expectation is Amosun will reproduce an incubation in Ogun to further the doctrine. The goal is Itesiwaju Agbaye Omo Oduduwa. Each state is to produce an incubation that mentors and churns out eggheads for regional and national service.

Old habits take time to change. Fashola is to groom his own incubation, Amosun, Ajimobi....but these guys get sucked in to the old habits of doing politics and begin to bicker with Tinubu.

Amosun, not Tinubu, should produce an egghead to replace Adeosun. Whoever he chooses we all have to be satisfied in it. We have long way to go before this doctrine firm up and take root. People are still in the learning curve. Amosun has produced consensus candidates in Ogun and people are demonizing him. Why? He is grooming his own incubator. Its not perfect but we must supress individual interests and allow the collective vision to work to our gain. Look at where Osinbajo is today. Im sure all Yoruba sons and daughters are happy. Well, VP is a product of the incubation. He is more educated than Tinubu and have argued against multinational companies in courts and defeated them. He is no small man in terms of legal footprint. Can you imagine if VP had dismissed Tinubu and not serve under his leadership? Prof is humble....look where humility has taken him. So this is lessons learnt.
Those in Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, we should all bring ourselves in line and support our leaders that are subscribers and implementers of this new political ideology in Yorubaland.

By the time we have gone through three successive tenures of commonwealth leadership, and each tenure is 8yrs, ...thats 24yrs, the gain will be more visible and we can appreciate it.

Sorry i went deep on it but this needs to be said.

You're the one incapable of and impervious to learning. Every state, including that of your hateful self, has a representative in the cabinet. It's non negotiable. It's not like DSS or other appointments that the President has discretion. This isn't discretionary. It's constitutional!!

Deep analysis, BabaRamota.

Don't want to quote your comment because it's very long, but great political insight.

Doubted you were Yoruba due to some very old comments; felt you were one of those silly omo nna mocking Yorubas. Can't remember which comments, but that was my 1st impression.

Thumbs up for the Political Incubation Theory

Cc. Okoyeebo, eponyeeboz, what do you think about this theory...would appreciate your critique. I enjoy your political analysis

Lol! They are fighting for nothing. Buhari is not replacing anyone not this election period. The Minister of State will oversee that ministry till the end of this tenure

This I believe is the first adminstration that will go a full term without reshuffling or dropping his cabinet members except the ones that resigned for higher appointments/election/forgery

What battle?

The economy is on its way again to recession...and Aunty Kemi has borrowed even for our great great grand children...and they’re battling for who will replace her from Ogun state. It’s the ministry of a failing finance we’re talking out and right now we need the best hands in the country right now.

I hope this doesn’t take another six months....the lifeless one won’t be there anymore anyway.
