Battery Killers In Your Car You Should Know by AutosageNaija: 11:41am On Sep 17, 2018
It is common knowledge that the battery charges when the engine is working, but when you turn off the engine, the battery starts working. This is very simple but most people do not know it.

An active battery enables every other function in the car to keep working such as the glass lock and the key remote-control lock/open, the lights in the car, to pop the trunk, the fuel tank, the bonnet/hood, the headlights, etc. with an active battery these functions can work whether the engine is on or turned off.

For this reason, I started paying attention to the things that take power from the battery cell. Chief among them is the air conditioner.

1.The Air Conditioner

If the air conditioner is on after the engine is turned off, the battery will suffer. The battery can be strong but not strong enough to carry the air conditioner alone. The A/C is a very powerful device and takes a toll on the battery. If you are fond of this, please don’t for the sake of the battery. Always turn on the engine if you must use the air conditioner.

2. Lights In The Doors

Another battery killer is the lights. There are a lot of lights in the car that still work if the engine is turned off. There are many of them in the doors. When you open the doors do you see those small lights that come on, they take a toll on the battery and we don’t even know. Other lights are in the roof.

Apart from that, other functions that keep working when the engine is turned off are the clock, the security lights, and the door security. They never go to sleep unless you remove the battery terminals.

Tip: You should know that if you intend to travel and leave your car unused for a long time, you should remove the battery terminals. This will render every function in the car useless.

In fact, you should also consider taking the battery away from the car and keep it in your house. This will also serve as a security measure as no thief will enter your car when the battery is out.

However, you should ask a friend to reconnect the battery and warm the car for you once every 20 days. This will keep the battery cells from losing power, instead, it will keep it charged and active.

So from today, look out for those battery killers in your car such as lights on the doors.
