good4all40:Some of u people don't understand these simple statistics. Expensive relative to the per capital income. Average same home in an European city maybe up to N200k/month but its still not tagged expensive because its affordable for residents of liars that city. It may be about 30-40% of their monthly income. Same maybe of the Abidjan you quoted. But in Nigeria, rent of 20k maybe up to 60% of the average income. 2 Likes |

The list is based on cost of living for expatraites so is not a good gauge. For instance, an American expatriate will reside in a 3 bedroom flat in Ikoyi that may cost $60000 a year. For a Naija guy, 1,200,000 3 bedroom flat in Ikeja will do. |

The thread is an example of people not reading methodologies before commenting. Mercer does not consider locals in their surveys, rather they target expatriates. Yes, accommodation is expensive in Abuja, but when juxtaposed against other factors, Lagos will be expensive than Abuja. At least, you have good roads in the nation's capital as opposed to the commercial centre. 2 Likes |

Ugosample: It is false to assume that lagos offers much opportunity ""wealth wise"" than other nigerian city. U are yet to consider the competition in lagos. Whatever business u want to start, 6000 people in lagos are already doing it, Same goes with employment. Most of lagos na slum 1 Like |

Lagos is more expensive. Accomodation is the only expensive item in Abuja and even at that it depends on where you want to live. Services ( are relatively affordable) in Wuse 2 , Maitama, the supposedly equivalents of V.I and lekki in Lagos. For instance barbershops in wuse 2 and maitama don't charge more than #2,000 per haircut. Meanwhile a similar outfit in V.I will cost you at least twice that rate. Look @ transport. Berger to Lagos island ( Oke Arin Market/ Ebute ero) will cost you #250 by bus. A distance of less than 20km Suleja to Berger bus stop will cost you #250. by bus. A distance of About 40km. Note both scenarios involve using expressways. so the argument of traffic gridlock holds no sway. I give it to the consulting firm. Abuja is overhyped. Lagos is way more expensive than Abuja. 1 Like |
