Nigeria Air Has Swallowed ₦1.45 Billion Since 2016 But Nothing To Show For It by amovista: 10:03am On Sep 18, 2018
It appears the FGN wasn’t ready for the national carrier when the name and logo were unveiled, despite budgetary allocations for 3 years in a row.

The new national carrier project made its first appearance in the 2016 budget with an allocation of ₦555 million ($1.53m) for the ‘Establishment of National Carrier (Appointment of Transaction Adviser and others)’ and ₦50 million ($138,200) earmarked for ‘Consultancy for the establishment of National Carrier’.

In the 2017 budget, the two items above resurfaced under code FMOTY55228388 and FMOTY81653467 and additional ₦555 million and ₦200 million ($552,800) were reallocated respectively. Also in the 2018 budget, ₦50 million and ₦40 million ($110,500) were allocated respectively to the two items with code ERGP31102698 and ERGP30111247.

It is obvious the federal government has been on the national carrier project for three years. However, events surrounding the airline, on the other hand, show a lack of readiness of the government to pull through. Noteworthy is the fact that the transaction advisers were unveiled earlier this year, despite recurrent allocations every year since 2016.

From all indications, government people involved in the project want to cash out as soon as possible. See more details on Techpoint Africa
