“Passion, Plight & Pleasure in Your Pursuit of God” is a message by Senior Pastor of House on The Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin in his “Something is about to happen” series.

The main text of this sermon is from Job 42:7. “And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath”

Your heart is where your treasure is

To enjoy God, we need to be saved. When we approach God and are saved, we can come and be one with him. "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit." 1Peter 3:18. When Jesus died on the cross, it was not just to forgive us from sins or to remove wrath but to also reconcile us to God. Reconciling here means bringing the man to God. Jesus stepped out of eternity into time, he took the form of a servant and came to earth to suffer and die for our sins so we can take his place at the Father's right hand. Jesus fought all the battles on our behalf and brought us to God so that we can be hidden in Christ and in God. On our own, we can't defeat sin, Christ already defeated sin and the only way to walk in that victory is to come to God and stay there.

God sees no sin in us

If you're a believer, you believe the Christ, you understand repentance from dead works and faith toward God through the finished work of calvary you'll understand that sin is out of the way and God sees no sin in us. Whatever Christ gets, we get. Jesus is the heir, and we are the joint heirs. Which means we have power over sickness and diseases. We hate iniquity and love righteousness. Stop struggling to be righteous, stop struggling to be what you already are. You are the righteousness of God in Christ, which is made possible by Christ's finished work. God made Christ, who knew no sin become sin so that you might be the righteousness of God in Christ, this is the whole purpose of faith in Christ; to bring us to God.

We know the love of a person by their loving actions

Things are not God, nor are the things God gives, the focal point of our joy. They just point to God. You could never be joyful in God if there were no constellation of His goodness and good things. "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him." - 1John 4:9. We know the fullness and the faithfulness of a person because he keeps his promises. As it is with his actions, so also the things and experiences he gives us, show us who he is. God's creation is designed as a foretaste of what it's like to enjoy God himself. The things he creates are for our enjoyment; our focus shouldn't be on them but on God, if not, we are idolaters.

It is your highest duty to delight in God

Jesus announced the first commandment in the New Testament in Matthew 22: 37 and 38 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. The essence of love is not doing, the essence is delighting, where God is the object and focus of your delight. Loving God is not first working for God, we are to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind. So it means we should prefer him above everything. The authentic love for people can only be the overflow of enjoying God's
supreme love above all. If you don't enjoy God above all, you'll have no love to give, its just human affection.
