OFFA POLY TO COMMENCE DEGREE PROGRAMMES IN COMPUTER AND ENGINEERING COURSES
The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara state has announced that the institution will commence degree programmes from the 2018/2019 academic session.

The approval of the programme was contained in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed and delivered to two institutions involved on Monday,

According to the institution public relation and protocol officer, Mr Olayinka Iroye, the institutions involved include; the Federal University of Technology Minna and the Federal Polytechnic, Offa.

GOVERNMENT URGED TO INCLUDE SIGN LANGUAGE IN SCHOOL CURRICULUM
September 23 is a historical day as it is the first ever International Day of Sign Languages celebration under the cross-cutting theme of “with sign language, everybody is included”.

The celebration which is part of the International Week of the Deaf was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on December 19, 2017.

The UN General Assembly decided to commemorate this day as the International Day of Sign Languages in order to raise awareness of the importance of sign language in the full realisation of the human rights of people who are deaf.

MAPOLY LECTURERS DECLARE WORK-TO-RULE STRIKE
Aggrieved lecturers of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta chapter, Ogun state has declared an indefinite work-to-rule industrial action over the unpaid four-month salary of the institution and alleged neglect by the Ogun State Government

The Zone “C” coordinator of the Union, Olawale Omoobaorun, disclosed this during a brief conference held at the school’s ASUP secretariat, in Abeokuta on Monday.

It was learnt that the lecturers made the decision at the last congress of the union where they all expressed their displeasure over the unpaid salaries between June and September 2018 and 67 per cent of ten months salary arrears.

FG RELEASES N42.68BN FOR EX WORKERS OF NIGERIA AIRWAYS, PUBLIC VARSITIES
President Muhammed Buhari has approved the immediate release of N42.68 billion as retirement benefits for ex-workers of Nigeria Airways and the education sector.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, Hajia Zainab Ahmed during a meeting with the retirees in Abuja on Monday, 24th September 2018.

According to her, N22.68 billion is for the settlement of the retirement benefits of former workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited (NAL) while the other N20 billion is for the revitalisation of Public Universities in line with the demands of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU).

MSSN DEMANDS ADHERENCE TO COURT RULING ON HIJAB IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state to issue a policy to resolve the crisis emanating from the use of hijab in public schools.

The board also noted that the governor should protect the law by adhering to the court of Appeal ruling on hijab usage.

The MSSN society in a petition to the governor dated Tuesday, September 9, said a judgment of the Appeal Court on Thursday, July 21, 2016, stated that wearing of hijab by pupils was their fundamental human rights.
