BRITISH DEPUTY HIGH COMMISSION LAGOS

The British Deputy High Commission in Lagos has the following vacancy in its Management Section.

LEIII COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: FRIDAY 13 April 2007

The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) is responsible for helping Post’s Management with family administration and welfare as it concerns the Post’s UK Based staff. The CLO serves as a link between Post Management and its families and initiates new services for those in Post as appropriate.

The main duties include:

 Sending welcoming letters or e-mails with useful information to new members of staff before they arrive at Post. Liasing with new staff and families on arrival at post, helping with problems associated with moving and advising on sensitive issues – i.e. specialised schooling for children

 Checking housing before staff move in. Liaising with the Accommodation Officer to ensure the property is of an acceptable standard. Placing the Welcome Pack and a welcoming gift in the property.

 Maintaining, updating and issuing the Welcome Pack to new arrivals, and other office directories. Ensuring the electronic copies are kept up-to-date on the Bulletin Board, and existing officers are notified of any changes.

 Taking new arrivals on a tour of shops, schools and recreational facilities.

 Acting as the main contact between Post and local schools. Arranging registration where necessary.

 Co-ordinating the annual updating of the Post Report.

 Maintaining and updating the contact list.

 Compiling and issuing regular Newsletter for all staff.

 Organising the completion of the ECA Cost of Living, Hardship surveys and other returns as required.





 Co-ordinating the updating of the Post Fact Sheet

 Liaising with CLOs at other Diplomatic Missions in Lagos. Liaising with CLO in Abuja. Also maintain contact with British Women’s Group and the British Council.

 Keeping a list of children at Post.

 Acting as an independent voice on the Post Housing, Security and Post Management Committees. Ex-officio member of the DSFA Charities, The Commissariat, International Mother & Child Playgroup and Kingfisher Club Committees.

 Providing support during settling-in period at Post and at any other time as required.

 Maintaining close relationships with BDHC nurse over welfare matters. Looking after Medivac families and doing hospital and home visits.

There are restrictions on who can be considered for this job and the British Deputy High Commission reserves the right to shortlist only those candidates who meet our strict criteria.

This is a part time position working 4 days per week. Days to be agreed with the fellow job-sharer. Salary for this position will be N 127,470 (Basic Salary) plus N 49,020 (allowances except medical allowance) per month. Non residents will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary. BDHC working hours are Monday to Thursday 0730hrs – 1530hrs, Friday 0730hrs - 1230hrs.
