World Football Governing Body, FIFA has suspended the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) with immediate effect, due to government interference in football affairs.

FIFA had sent a warning to the SLFA as it forbids outside third party interference in the running of its members.

"We request the SLFA to provide a detailed report on the current situation by no later than Monday 24 September," a Fifa letter to the SLFA said.

"Recent developments, if confirmed, would … have to be brought to the attention of the Bureau of the Fifa Council for consideration of sanctions, including immediate suspension.

"It was reported to our services that on 18 September, the premises of the SLFA were apparently intruded by the ACC, allegedly with the collaboration of the Ministry of Sports and accompanied by armed forces," added the letter signed by Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura.

This came just after the removal of SLFA President Isha Johansen and General Secretary Christopher Kamara.

FIFA has now asked for both individuals be allowed to access SLFA premises without delay.

“The suspension will be lifted once SLFA and its recognised leadership have confirmed to FIFA that the SLFA administration, premises, accounts and communication channels are under their controlonce again.

“Following its suspension, SLFAhas lost all its membership rights as defined in article 13 ofthe World Football Statutes.

“The SLFA’s national and affiliated club teams are no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted,” FIFA said in a statement.

Sierra Leone's Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, has denied any involvement in the actions of the ACC.

"My ministry has not been involved inthe latest actions taken by the ACC, which is an independent body and not linked to the government," he told BBC Sport.

If the ban is not lifted before 11 October, Sierra Leone's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Ghana willbe cancelled. The return fixture is scheduled for 15 October.


Sierra Leone are one of four teams with three points in Group F, which also includes Ethiopia and Kenya.

Isha Johanssen, President of Sierra Leone Football Association declined to comment fully becauseof legal reasons, but told CNN: "It's a sad day for Sierra Leone football and for the Sierra Leone people."

Johansen is the only female football president in Africa and oneof only two women to have ever held the role as president of a football association.

It's a clear case were a nation will have to select between chosing football or chosing to protect It's laws and sovereignty/demonstrates its commitment,determination and seriousness towards its fight against corruption.

Sierra Leone went for the latter.
