NANS Task FG To Release Withheld Benue Fund And Other Affected States by PeterOnu(m): 5:57pm On Oct 08, 2018
The president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Obande Gideon Obande has task the Federal Government to immediately release the Paris fund meant for Benue State Government and other affected States, Comrade Obande condemned FG for withholding the Paris fund earlier released to the State government, Comrade Obande noted that the fund is a refund meant to get to all the states believing that it will go a long way in alleviating the economic pressure on the masses.

He asserted that the seizure of the Paris fund meant for Benue state and few other states have rather increased the burden on the state and painted the Federal government in the light of displaying preference for the welfare of some citizens over others.

In the light of equity and fairness, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), demands that the Federal Government releases the withheld funds of Benue and other states to lighten the burden on the workers, pensioners and students within the affected states as this delay is amounting to the breach of the right of citizens on the affected States and a deviation from the true tenets of democracy.

We believe that the welfare of citizens surpasses any form of interest and rather than withhold the portion meant for the affected states, a committee be set up by the presidency to rather monitor and report on the usage of the Paris fund across the 36 States.

In the discharge of our duties, we must be guided by the constitution to ensure that we do not undermine other institutions of democracy as this will destroy our nascent democracy.

Nigerian students wish to sue for equity and demand that all affected states are given their own trench within the next 10 working days or face mass action from Nigerian Students.
