Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, has benefited from the Corporate Social Responsibility of Sir Emeka Offor Foundation as it recently received bags of international books from the philanthropic non-governmental organization.
While presenting the books to the University and 42 other tertiary institutions in Nigeria, the Coordinator of the Foundation, Hon. Sir Tony Obi, noted that the organization in collaboration with a United States based institution, Books for Africa, was carrying out a supplementary book distribution to tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“Today the Foundation is carrying out a supplementary book distribution to tertiary institutions in Nigeria and about 43 institutions are benefiting from the scheme, he noted.
He explained that the Foundation was about education enhancement, adding that since 2013 when it came on stream, the organization has donated books to about 120 institutions in Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, the President of the Foundation, Sir Emeka Offor explained that the greatest resource at the disposal of government to champion the development of Nigeria is human capital. He however decried the inability of the government to harness this all-important resource and make it work for the country’s development.

The President of the Foundation who was represented by Dr. Steve Dike, a Director in the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company maintained that the Foundation was committed to education at all levels, which made them to embark on donation of books and other library materials to educational institutions in Nigeria.

He further maintained that the Foundation was interested in building alliances with universities in Nigeria in order to get the country’s education system back on track, stating that the credibility of academics in Nigeria has been eroded and needs to be taken back to the basics.

Expressing his gratitude to the Foundation for the largesse, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, noted that the books would be properly used for the benefits of students and other library users. He also extolled the President of the Foundation for his philanthropic gestures across the country.
The Vice-Chancellor further admonished the youths to take their education seriously, decrying the prevalent academic laxity among the Nigerian students.
