My first advice for you is to look at yourself and find out what you want, I.T is divided into different sections. find out where yr strengths lies, is it hardware ? software ?

thats only when u would be able to know where to direct your I.T career towards,

If it is Hardware go for the CCNA. That's good enough,

Todays market(in terms of Job) would hire someone that can do both. get as many certifications as you can(even while working). In addition, try something outside engineering(like building communication skills, and the likes)

My guy, others may have different views from mine, i would suggest you forget your electrical engineering background and go into IT management but if you

choose to stay in EE i wld advise you acquire a prince2 and ITIL certification, albeit foundation level, though people may think prince2 is all about managin

projects, but its more than that, besides, the X-factor it gives your CV, employers want to see that u are willing to broaden ur horizon and that u are

flexible. also, u never know what the future holds, i have some ITIL uk past questions if u neeed them. I did the prince2 and ITIL change practioneer

certifications and now i working as a change and configuration analyst even though i grauduated with a sociology degree. whatever path you choose my friend

always look at whats in vogue and look at what the future holds . good luck.

@OP
I would say the most directly relevant certifications to EE are the Cisco certifications. There are Cisco tracks in data internetworking, wireless connectivity, voice over IP, and unified communications.
If you go this route, you are likely to encounter fundamental EE stuff, particularly in the telecom area. And they are certifications you can build on, to pursue a career in telecoms.

Most of the MS and Comptia stuff are more relevant to computer engineers, and are related to support of computer hardware and software, not really EE stuff.

Re: It Courses Relevant To Electrical Engineering. by manosteel(m): 11:37pm On Jul 13, 2010
Thanks guyz for the advice, i will weigh my options to decide which one to go for. I will also advise anyone in my field to go for IT knowdge. I work for a company and i know the challenges i face on daily bases. Machines are getting more and more sophiscated, computerized and automated, and one needs to be well grounded in IT both hardware and software to be able to have a good grip on them. @builder, i would like to have those materials, if possible, e-book or handout on prince2 or ITIL. manijoe@live.com is my mail address.

I suggest you go for digital telecommunications and fibre optics. That's the new market in Nigeria.

@ Moderators

I don't post a lot on here, but I didn't know why my post was removed. I challenge anyone to clarify what was wrong with my post, i took a lot of my time to write the post, why it was removed is beyond me.

Was the Moderator high on something?

Get a shop and start computer maintenance job, programme installation, upgrade, assemble, home/office network, etc. you as an electrical engineer you don't need any further schooling to do this job. search youtube on how to do things.
