The truth is that Christianity was promoted through fear, torture, and death, in a series of continental inquisitions

not quite true.

Constantine did not adopt christianity using any of these tactics, prior to the era you speak of.

and the time frame you're referring to here, is known as the dark ages for a reason.

and i dont think the aim of the inquisition was to promote christianity per se, but more like an attempt to weed out dissidents.
Re: Images From The Christian Inquisition by Nobody: 8:20am On Nov 12, 2010
chukwudi 44, what makes you think that a Spanish population of ''9 million'' was incapable of destroying 100 million people over a 40 year period in the New World through warfare and disease?

The population of europe was not even up to 100 million then,so eve if they killed everyone in europe they would still not be able to get this figure of 100 million.

to make matters worse for you the spanish inquisition was restricted to spain which did not even have up to 10% of the figure you posted.

mind you the spanish inquisition was neither instituited by the catholic church nor was it under papal control but rather under the control of the spanish government which only happened to be catholics.

Also, you are wrong to state the inquisition started in the 12th century. The records show quite clearly that from the 3rd century onwards, thousands of people were tortured and massacred by christians for heresy and for being 'pagans'

Which inquisition existed in the third century/the catholic church in the 3rd century was under roman persecution and did not even have the power to carry oui the inquisition even if it wanted to.

During the first three decades of the thirteenth century the Inquisition, as the institution, did not exist. But eventually Christian Europe was so endangered by heresy, and penal legislation concerning Catharism had gone so far, that the Inquisition seemed to be a political necessity. That these sects were a menace to Christian society had been long recognized by the Byzantine rulers. As early as the tenth century Empress Theodora had put to death a multitude of Paulicians, and in 1118 Emperor Alexius Comnenus treated the Bogomili with equal severity, but this did not prevent them from pouring over all Western Europe. Moreover these sects were in the highest

This is from the website you posted which happens to be the catholic encyclopedia.Where i it did you read thatthe inquisition commenced in the 3rd century.

OMG! shocked shocked shocked, I swear I fear to know that shyt like that actually happened to people! It seems like things like that were practiced in europe long before christianity. It does not have anything to do with christianity although the "followers" of that religion did use these tactics.
Re: Images From The Christian Inquisition by Nobody: 9:14am On Nov 12, 2010
The number of people killed by the spanish inquisition was actually less than 6000

As you can see from the link above the inquisitions were not restricted to the catholic church alone as even the protestants churches joined in the persecution of those who did not agree with their faith

Re: Images From The Christian Inquisition by chinedumo(m): 5:51pm On Jan 04, 2011

Re: Images From The Christian Inquisition by chinedumo(m): 3:15pm On Jan 05, 2011
when did u metamorphocize into different people
same mary worship(going by the number of times mary is mentioned in the rosary to that of Jesus)
church structure
same beliefs

if u are different the more reason to renounce the former
not do the formers acts again and make restitution

it is not only the pope that should renounce and do restitution
every single catholic on the planet

civilised chrisitanity. cool
Re: Images From The Christian Inquisition by Ptolomeus(m): 7:47pm On Feb 15, 2012
PAGAN 9JA:

civilised chrisitanity. cool
Exactly!
Under the guise of "CIVILIZING" the savage and "SAVE" to the heathen, did these horrible things. The same excuse was used in Africa to enslave and exterminate millions.
Also in America did with the Indians ,
These images also hurts , It hurts the irony that with these methods is intended to "civilize" the supposedly wild ,
One who worships a god that does not need favors this demon ,
The paradox is that those who try to justify that kind of thing they accuse others of being demonic, to be condemned to hell, to worship false gods and to be uncivilized ,
Ahhhh , Western and Christian culture ,

Mudley313:

sharrap there. if you don't know anything just ask instead of spewing rubbish due to you guys usual hatred for others with differing beliefs from yours, even those of your own religion. na wah o

protestant didn't act in self-defense; they acted for the same reason the catholics and islamic terrorist act; that the others are heretics (in the case of jihadist, infidels)

calvin broke up with the catholic church, moved to switzerland and started mass persecution of catholics. or was martin luthers hatred for the jews self defense too? the anglican church of england persecuted everyone not anglican, from catholics to puritans to scots to irish. the pilgrims who ran to start america, ran to avoid persecution from the english PROTESTANT church. the despicable acts of slavery was carried out enmasse by these same oh so holy protestants of yours

stop supporting/defending atrocious acts and their perpetrators, whether catholic, protestant or muslim. the christian religion has caused more deaths historically than all the other religions combined. deal with it
Indeed.
There is something worse than what we saw, is that in the XXI century there are still people who want to justify or minimize this kind of thing ,
I repeat: Who are the uncivilized?

Organized religion is the basis of war-mongering and enslavement of the mind and body. Imagine this:

chinedumo: Today is November the 1st
but yesterday was October the 31st
certain people celebrate Halloween
but certain Christians Choose this day as the Reformation Day

A day to remember the works and sacrifices of heroes (especially that of MARTIN LUTHER, of blessed memory) past to purge the church and redeem the true worship of God
and save the name of God from ridicule and abuse

All(including Catholics who are Christians) should condemn and denounce this evil
that it did not come from God
and was not done of God
and it is against God
luther and co had their own share of inquisitions and burning their supposed heretics on the stake.
I'd say the reformers aren't innocent of the disaster.
Re: Images From The Christian Inquisition by Ubenedictus(m): 10:43pm On Mar 25, 2013
chinedumo: This does not go to say that Protestants are saints either
they too persecuted the Catholics in retaliation and self defense
though not in this magnitude!
But evil is evil
they not only had a problem with catholics and jews they had a problem with themselves. Calvin burnt people who deny doctrines such as trinity.
Re: Images From The Christian Inquisition by Ubenedictus(m): 11:03pm On Mar 25, 2013

I know that Catholics will attempt to water it down
actually that wiki report seem more objective than that of rossik

ROSSIKE: chukwudi 44, what makes you think that a Spanish population of ''9 million'' was incapable of destroying 100 million people over a 40 year period in the New World through warfare and disease?

Of course it was more than possible, and it was what happened, IN FACT.

How many Europeans did it take to move 12 million Africans into slavery?

How many Americans did it take to massacre an estimated 2 million Iraqis through war and sanctions?

Also, you are wrong to state the inquisition started in the 12th century. The records show quite clearly that from the 3rd century onwards, thousands of people were tortured and massacred by christians for heresy and for being 'pagans'.

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/08026a.htm
dat link clearly say that d inquisition started in d 12 century. There was nothing called d inquisition in d 3rd cent.
