Please, I Need Urget Advice by Bestatit: 3:09pm On Oct 12, 2018
Good day everyone, please I'm in dilemma, I need advice from mature people.

I'm 38years old, married with 3 kids, a professional graphic designer with over 15years of experience. I'm running my own company which I started last year.

It has always being my dreams to settle together with my family in Canada/USA. A friend of mine living in US advice me to come to the state, he assured me of making it over there in no time because of my professionalism in the field. Uncle of mine living in UK shared the same view. But asked if I have any certificates, he said without certificate I won't go far, stressing that no matter how good I am, I'll be under people who have certificate in the same field.

The issue now is this, I have no certificate in graphic design, no B.Sc (I didn't attend any university). Spent the time acquiring skills in graphic design which I thought was better for me then.

I visited NIIT ikeja on Monday. I asked one of the managers if it's possible for me to get certificate in graphic design without attending the classes, he said no.

I was contemplating of obtaining National Open University form but it would take me 4-5 years before I can acquire my BSc. I can't wait that far before travelling.

Please, I need serious advice, the best advice I could get. Is there any better approach /way to this issue? How do go about obtaining Certificate in Graphic Design and BSc?

Lalasticlala

Please help a brother push this to the front page.

If NIIT certificate would do, then go for NIIT. You won't take long since you are experienced and vast in graphic design.

Why the hurry? Your friend and uncle are still based there, so relax, take your time and get the certificate first. It's not like there's a position waiting for you there! They'll have to find it for you when you get there.

My 2cents!

Guess I've taken up the job of a free advisor cheesy grin

If this applied to me, I will go to the US or Canada, get a job, even if it doesn't pay as much as a professional, enroll in a diploma program in your area of interest and get the certificate in 2 years or less. Remember not just any certificate but one they will respect. A diploma from their country holds more water to them than degree in Ur country. Besides what Ur uncle said, that u will work under someone, I don't see anything wrong, so long u are focused in getting Ur own certification, it's only a matter of time, u will be Ur own boss. Determination bro. All D best

Time and opportunities don't come our way everyday.
instead of wasting your time here, go where your skills would be appreciated, where there is a system that works, where you can school and earn at the same time. where you can get s qualification that would be respected anywhere in the world.
It may not be easy at first, but it would get easier

To be honest, I'm not sure what a degree will do for you in graphic designing.
The way things work in the West is very different, and they don't pay too much focus on degree, but rather skills.
Perhaps you can do some professional exams/certifications in your field?
I once met a woman who never went to a university for a first degree in the UK , but did her masters (passed with a distinction) and presently doing a PhD in her field. She's into all this psychology things. She got into her masters with her experience of public speaking and doing a lot of research on happiness. She goes about speaking to differnt professionals and specialist and she is well paid to talk to them.
If i hadn't met her and she told her story, I would have sworn it was impossible to have a masters talkmore of a PhD without a first degree. Really weird stuff. I will look for her name on her card and Google more on her sef. She has written several books also

In this part of the world we do not understand that sharing problems is a big deal in relieving ourselves of the burden they pose to our mind. A lot of people go into emotional melt down every now and then. It's very important to share your issues.
And this is a WhatsApp group link invite for anyone who wants to be listened to no judgements at all. All topics whatsoever.
Yes finally a place where you can be heard.

Wrong! Very wrong. In fact, if you do not have a degree, do not even think of coming unless you want to study there and have a student visa.

I wouldn't like you to get tensed up for nothing just because you were promised what you haven't seen yet

If you have the money go to NIIT closest to your area, acquire the knowledge and get the certificate

Then when you relocate abroad and get settled further your education and get the desired Bsc

If you want to go to London go with your family if you can afford it but if you want to go to your uncle go with that NIIT certificate settled own there and work and go to higher school

Whichever way you are still at gain, the most important thing is your family will be down here waiting for you to bring them over there

NIIT certification takes one year or less. Grab that before you relocate.
