Alexander Adefarasin, one of Pastor Paul and Ifeanyi Adefarasin’s sons, recently gave a talk in school on the role of the importance of enlightening the girl child. Thursday, October 11th was the International Day of the Girl, an international observance day declared by the United Nations, which is usually celebrated by most countries of the world.

According to Alexander, “women around the world, especially the 3rd world countries, are perceived to be the lesser gender next to us men, but that is not the case. Instead, they should be perceived as equal to us, and we should not overlook the importance of girls because these girls mature into women who are the mothers and wives of our future generation. And the way people believe that women should be confined to the perimeters of the home, we might be forgetting that the home is the bedrock of society.

There should be the formal education of a child 24/7, 365 days a year. Women, in other words, are great teachers, they sacrifice so much for their children, and they need to have proper requisite to support their husbands, and this comes with education starting from right now. And without the exposure to knowledge, we won’t be able to prep children with the vital skills needed to go through life...”

In a culture and society that is mostly gender-biased, it is incredible to know that Paul Adefarasin and his wife are raising their kids not just the godly way but also as civil and responsible children. As we focus on building our girl child to be responsible in society, it is essential that we train the male child to know his roles too. They will both grow into adults to live in community together, so we must educate the young boys to be supportive and encouraging gender equality. Men and women are equal.

Like the Bible puts it, “train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” The future we want our children to live in starts now, by teaching and instructing them on the proper things to do. A great future awaits our children if we raise them correctly. I encourage us all to aspire to emulate Pastor Paul Adefarasin and his beautiful wife, Ifeanyi Adefarasin, let’s train our children the proper way.
