adoration belongs to God ALONE, I don't give it to Mary or anyone.

The last time I checked a dictionary, to venerate means to show respect and or honor to a person or thing.

We respect our president, our parents, our elders, we show them honor? I believe the right question should be: why should I not respect the mother of my saviour, the obedient handmaiden of God, with whose agreement the incarnation was worth?

Known Use of venerate

History and Etymology for venerate

The Mistake we keep making is that we think bible stories are literal or historical.. They are not.. They are spiritual stories meant to Teach spiritual truths...
In the book of Jeremiah a mention is made of certain "queen of heaven".. It is that cult that metamorphosed into Christianity.. The new testament was then fabricated to look like it was an actual event.. It is not..
Mary the mother of jesus is the Queen of heaven and also lucifer" the light bearer". The morning star, she is known as Inanna by the sumarians, ishtar by Egyptian, Venus by the Romans and aphrodite by the Greeks.. Shiva by the Indians..i think she will correspond to Olokun in yoruba /Bini religion..
She is venerated all round the world under different names...

There is no where it was reported that she is evil, she was given the title of Goddess of death and destruction that was why she was considered an enemy of Marduk, the creator of the universe...

She is the Queen of heaven and earth and underworld..

Catholic are not wrong in honouring her, it is the honour that is due to her..

You are more confused than i thought.

The Bible says thou shall not bear false witness dear.

Catholics have been consistent in insisting that Mary is simply human and should not be adored it is a sin called idolatry and any Catholic who holds such opinion is condemned by the church under anathema since that is a serious heresy.

in ancient religion there are also gods called king of kings, Lord of lords, divine, savior, first and last, and several thousand names, that didn't stop Christians from using all those titles for Jesus, even many titles Yorubas use for Jesus comes from their local deities.

This appropriation is not new nor sinful, if false gods use a title the belongs to God we remove those titles from them, if false heroes take titles that grace have given to others, we removed the false heroes and give the titles to those who have been given the grace. It doesn't mean we worship false gods, instead we removed titles from false illusions and give it to those who deserve such either by nature or by grace.

This is an unfortunate lie,

The honor of Mary, the apostles and martyrs in the Christian churches was already a solid and clear practice even before the birth of Constantine or even his parents, so too the asking of their intercession.

The false story that it began during Constantine to merge other religions is a lie peddled by either those ignorant of the early church or out to deceive others.
In the early church even before Constantine Mary is referred to as the new Eve who rolls back the disobedience of the old Eve

"As Eve was seduced by the speech of an angel, so as to flee God in transgressing his word, so also Mary received the good tidings by means of the angel's speech, so as to be God within her, being obedient to this word. And though the one had disobeyed God, yet the other was drawn to obey him; that of the virgin Eve, the virgin Mary might become the advocate and as by a virgin the human race had been bound to death, by a virgin it is saved, the balance being preserved- a virgin's disobedience by a virgin' obedience." (Against Heresies, 3, 19 130 A.D

For whereas Eve, yet a virgin and undefiled, through conceiving the word that came from the serpent, brought forth disobedience and death; the Virgin Mary, taking faith and joy, when the Angel told her the good tidings that the Spirit of the Lord should come upon her, and the power of the Most High overshadow her, and therefore the Holy One to be born of her should be the Son of God, answered, Be it done to me according to thy word. And so by means of her was he born, concerning whom we have shown so many Scriptures were spoken; through whom God overthrows the serpent, and those angels and men who have become like to it, and on the other hand, works deliverance from death for such as repent of their evil doings and believe in him (Dialogue with Trypho, 100 A.D.)

Along with titles like mother of God, ever virgin, etc. Her intercession is requested even in the early church

We fly to your patronage, O holy Theotokos; despise not our petition in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O ever-glorious and blessed Virgin." 3rd century

Tell me how this is not worship?

One popular prayer in Mary’s honor is the Hail
Holy Queen, which is known in Latin as the
Salve Regina. It is traditionally included as part
of praying the rosary.
For Catholics who are reading this, please try to
overcome your familiarity with this text and really

worship?
“Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Our life,
our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we
cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee
do we send up our sighs, mourning and
weeping, in this valley of tears. Turn, then,
most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy
toward us; and after this our exile show unto
us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O
clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.”
Alfonsus de Liguori (1696-1787) was a principal
proponent of the Marianist Movement, which
glorifies Mary. He wrote a book entitled The
Glories of Mary which is famous, influential and widely read. In this book, de Liguori says that Mary was given rulership over one half of the kingdom of God; Mary rules over the kingdom of mercy and Jesus rules over the kingdom of justice. De Liguori said that people should pray to Mary as a mediator and look to her as an object of trust for answered prayer. The book even says that there is no salvation outside of Mary. Some people suggest that these views are extreme and not representative of Catholic
Church teaching. However, instead of silencing de Liguori as a heretic, the Catholic Church canonized him as a saint

Well, since it seems you haven't read much, you might want to start with a simple one like Alice in Wonderland. It's available online for free, as is Orwell's 1984, which is good too. Then consider Achebe's Things Fall Apart and Adichie's Purple Hibiscus, both which I consider essential reading for Nigerians. They are fiction, but would at least make you consider that the written word is written by human beings, and that 'believing' is a choice.

For non fiction, try Swedenborg's Heaven and Hell. It's an interesting book about the author's trips to heaven and hell. And if you can handle a book in Yoruba, try Fagunwa's Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Olodumare.

To be sincere though, any reading apart from religious text would most likely benefit you since it does not appear to be a thing you've done much of.

in genesis 3:15 God promised a new Eve aka Woman whose seed is the new Adam and he established a perpetual enmity between the new Eve and the devil, between her offspring and the devils offspring.

Paul tells us that Jesus is the new Adam who reverses the old Adams sin, Mary then is the new Eve the fulfilment of that prophecy, the woman.

funny enough 3 of the gospels are anonymously written, it is iranaeus a disciples of John the apostle who tells us who wrote what, but I guess in your estimation, these people taught by the apostles and well known for trustfully handing on the Christian faith by the whole church they are fake but you are correct.

you are getting biblical exegesis from members of the church closer to the apostles and you say they are all fake but you in 2018 who neither know the languages in which the Bible is written nor the apostles in person nor even acclaimed by the church, you are the correct guy.

Bullshit .
you and your church are craftly at manipulating words to suit your fantasy.

Explain to me how you express worship to God

no dear, maybe Diana is the name of the Mary your pastor talks about in your church.

the Mary we honor in the Catholic church is instead the mother of my saviour, my Lord and my God, Christ Jesus, she is no goddess, she instead is highly graced.

I laugh at you typical sheepie.

Thats what you are told

Ubenedictus:
you are now God who decides the true from the fake Christians abi?

Justin martyr who was killed for his faith in Jesus and acclaimed by the entire church is fake to you but you blue agent sited in the comfort of your home must be one abi.

funny enough 3 of the gospels are anonymously written, it is iranaeus a disciples of John the apostle who tells us who wrote what, but I guess in your estimation, these people taught by the apostles and well known for trustfully handing on the Christian faith by the whole church they are fake but you are correct.

you are getting biblical exegesis from members of the church closer to the apostles and you say they are all fake but you in 2018 who neither know the languages in which the Bible is written nor the apostles in person nor even acclaimed by the church, you are the correct guy.

sorry dear, you are not correct just because you claim to be correct.

So God is now a lair that will write something different in his book the Bible and still instruct people to teach doctrines contrary to it?

Romans 3:4 King James Version (KJV)
4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Version (NKJV)
You Will Know Them by Their Fruits
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

then you need to read your Bible.

in genesis 3:15 God promised a new Eve aka Woman whose seed is the new Adam and he established a perpetual enmity between the new Eve and the devil, between her offspring and the devils offspring.

Paul tells us that Jesus is the new Adam who reverses the old Adams sin, Mary then is the new Eve the fulfilment of that prophecy, the woman.

you don't need a PhD to get that.

You are really funny.

You are trying hard to force meaning out of meanless words.

Was Mary married ro Jesus as Eve was married to Adam?

Thanks, but what intellectual value has all this book added to you becos i have not seen anything to show that you even understand or comprehend the issue at hand.

so we are now going by the testimony of Satanists now abi?

guess I should provide a quote by Satanists too that says the reformation is the work of the devil to divide the church of Christ into factions.

will you accept that too?

Do you know that Occultists and pagans still worship this pagan goddess which your church rebranded as Mary and even pagans confirm that the doctrine on Mary originated from them.

You don't understand that books are written by human beings and that they don't drop down from heaven. Reading more would help you put things you believe into some rational perspective and improve your intellectual abilities.

These books would specifically allow you to learn what fantasy is. After all, you aren't likely to believe Alice actually was in wonderland, or that Swedenborg really did go to heaven and then hell, despite his detailed description.

Starting with these would prepare you to read some more serious stuff, next year perhaps. Let me know how you get on now.

Do these Orwell, Achebe and Adichie or even Nairaland's own OtemA, tick all the boxes in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 above?

I remember reading "Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Irunmọlẹ" and not "Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Olodumare"
Baba Fagunwa never wrote any book titled "Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Olodumare"

This is evidence that Wikipedia is not gospel
and why it always, has to be taken with a pinch of salt

Wikipedia got wires crossed with another book titled "Igbo Olodumare" (i.e. Forest of God)

Who made her Queen and Holy?
heck that must be God.

Maybe you missed it in your Bible study so maybe later you can check it out.

The mother of the king in the davidic kingdom has the office of Queen mother in the Bible, from Beersheba downward... Every woman who gives birth to the davidic king is Queen mother. Not rocket science.

God prophesied and brought to manifestation that Jesus will be King in that dynasty
Luke 1
You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
his mum is automatically Queen mother. No long story there.

As for holy, that is what we call people who as full of grace, who God is with, they can't be anything but holy.
