Split unit ACs come in two parts: the indoor unit and the outdoor unit. The two units are connected by a copper pipe and a pipe is connected to the indoor unit to remove drain water from the unit. The Outdoor units house the condensers which can be made of either copper or aluminium.

Copper condensers are better as they have better heat efficiency, have a low cost of repair and are easily repairable but the initial costs are higher; aluminium condensers on the other hand have low cost but are extremely difficult to repair. The indoor units are fixed to the walls inside(ideal height is 2 metres from the ground).
