Just read the rubbish some zombies above me are spewing.. Elumelu clearly said that "2016 was Nigeria worst economy ever".. Was 2016 not among your god, Bubu's administration?..
Elumelu is even stupid. How does collecting massive loans used for "huge but unsee-able projects and infrastructures" steer Nigeria towards the right direction? Nigerian Naira exchange rate was around N160 per dollar during GEJ's era.. It currently above N365 per dollar. How is that an improvement in this wretched economy? It's either Elumelu is vainly stupid or his wealth is affecting him from giving the right judgement. (spits)
Even you will take Tony Elumelu's words over your spit! Yes 2016 was hell and it wasn't unexpected, the signs were brewing as far back as 2011 (according to Sanusi the former CBN governor) and even Okonjo Iweala reckoned that BUFFERS needed to be put in place BEFORE the heat came! No wonder Soludo said he pities the govt that was taking over cause he knew the damage had been done already and it will take a miracle to avoid a recession!

Fast forward to 2017, we are out of recession sooner than expected, South Africa is my experiencing its second and Venezuela an exact replica of Nigeria in that its economy is oil dependent is still STUCK there!

Could it have been better than this? Of course
Were there certain wrong approaches this govt at its inception? Yes
But ultimately are we where we were? Not at all!

What I tell folks like you is imagine a deadly combo of a fast spreading insurgency and an economy in recession then you will need to appreciate how far this govt has come!

Elumelu is right!

Your mates and your juniors ride power bikes all over the country but you cant get over one ridden by the presidents son. i doubt you have ever worried about the millions of dollars traced to past officials accounts.

Keep fooling yourself.
If you're not guilty of this, where's Babachir Lawal Adeosun Maina etc?

As a player in the oil and gas industry, Tony Elumelu is saying the truth. This govt has restored confidence in the oil and gas sector such that the international oil companies have started injecting funds for the JV projects which were slowed down because GEJ was not paying the cashcall (the govt counterpart funding). Buhari has cleaned that up. What is not available again is "free" funds that people using their positions in power (termed business people) that were cornering. That is why you see the likes of Emeka Offor, Ifeanyi Ubah, Stella Oduah, etc closing shops. But the real investors are ramping up investments. For instance, Conoil, belonging to Adenuga, have 2 rigs working In Nigeria now.

All this one na hug wash.
Tony has always benefited from the system.
Billionaire this and that. That's how Saudi Arabia were claiming to be wealthy while in earnest they were bloody murderers murdering people in very extremity cold way.
But they will never escape the judgement of God, both in this life and that which is to come.
That a man with money will come and be making statements does not mean anything of substance

We still remain a consuming nation which its economy is largely driven by crude oil sales and we are dipping deeper in both external and internal debts. We must do more than being optimistic by acting on our optimism.

Elumelu is right!

Bros true talk. Venezuela is even in a worse condition than Nigeria because of same issue of corruption and dependence on oil. Though they have the largest oil reserves in the world and produce more than Nigeria the citizens are living in hell. Nigeria's living condition is far better. I had a first hand information from a colleague Venezuelan when I went to work for Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia. He had to relocate to Spain. There was food and drugs shortage. Everything had gone haywire with hyperinflation. Same would have happened to us if GEJ had continued. Though Ngozi Okonji-Iweala cried out too late in Feb/Mar 2015 when she said they had to borrow money to pay civil servants and that govt failed to heed experts warning since 2013. GEJ govt (albeit PDP) had created serious economic problems that God so loved us to put Buhari there to stabilize.

That Nigeria's exchange rate was N190/N200 when GEJ left in May 2015 was a saving grace for him. There was nothing he would be able to do to shore up the exchange rate and prevent a free fall had it been he stayed till end of 2015. Oil dependent countries like Nigeria, Egpyt, Russia, Angola, Venezuela, etc., took the hit in form of currency devaluation. Google the facts in that time period.

I agree with you! Building capacity for produxtion is goin to take time and lots and lots of resources which at the moment we dont have! I think thats why this govt is goin to borrow as that is the only option they have got if they will spur the production to pickup steam!

How can an agent of corruption say otherwise? Elumelu is one of the channels government waste the resources of Nigeria. He simply wants the focus on debt increase to be shifted. Because, as long as we continue to talk about debt increase, his financial homes can never be left out. They are the people who move these money from overseas to Nigeria. It is not the people who live in high-rise, fly planes and run diesel 24hrs and never go to market will determine when the economic crisis in Nigeria is over. It is the masses. In Ethiopia today, the people are the ones testifying to working of the Ethiopian economy.
About borrowing, there is no way we can say economic crisis is over with the amount of money borrowed. It is coming out from recession to going into debt crisis. Has anybody asked what the collateral is, conditions for borrowing. Consider the day you missed servicing your loan with a bank. They will send a different team that have devil looks. But when you came to borrow, a beautiful lady with accent will lure you borrow and even give you coffee. You can now imagine what transpires at the global level. Of course it is worst at the global level.

And children of anger, frustration and hate want us to abandon a clearly working government for one whose candidate has shown us his natural affinity for wanton looting of our resources, a kleptomaniac at that act!.

Forbes rated Nigerian economy as the best performing economy in Africa.

Now, this news from a good ambassador from across the Niger has equally said:

"things are changing in Nigeria and it appears our economic managers have finally gotten a strong grip on the economy.”

"Our group is in the process of closing a $2.5 billion oil asset acquisition in the country. We are doing this as a demonstration of confidence in the economy. If the economy was not good or improving, we would not be contemplating that".

If your brain is already Athiefkulooted by the fraud called Atiku, not all of us we suffer such unfortunate occurrence.

The economy derived from Atikulootingnology is dead. Never again. Sai Baba! grin
