Audi’s R8 Coupé and Spyder models have been equipped with better looks and more strength, making the four-ring supercar offer more power as well as enhanced suspension and steering.

Both versions of the normally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 also received some extra urge. The V10 ‘Performance’ flagship model now produces 456kW and 580Nm (up from 449kW/560Nm) while the ‘base’ V10 gets an even bigger (22kW) power hike, from 397kW/540Nm to 419kW/550Nm.

Against the clock the R8 Coupé and Spyder V10 Performance models would screech from 0-100km/h in 3.1 and 3.2 seconds respectively, with the equivalent base versions taking 3.4 and 3.5 seconds.

The evolutionary curve continues with the R8’s dynamic systems, with modifications to the suspension, ESC stability control and electromechanical power steering. The R8 rides on 19-inch alloys, but customers can order ‘Five-V’ design 20 inch rims.

Key external design changes include a wider grille and front splitter, but what you’ll surely notice first are the flat slits just below the bonnet, first seen on the new A1 hatch.

There is also a wider grille at the back, as well as a new three-part engine cover that’s available in plastic or carbon fibre.

Ascari Blue and Kemora Gray join the exterior paint colour menu, and clients can choose from three exterior packages that add different highlights to the front splitter, side trimmings and diffuser.

The facelifted R8 goes on sale in Europe from the first quarter of 2019 onwards.
