MY STAND ON CORRUPTION AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

To eliminate corruption and ensure that every citizen of Benue State and other Nigerians residing in Benue State benefit adequately from our commonwealth, we pledge to ensure that governance and management of the resources accruable to the State, from Internally Generated Revenue and statutory allocations from the Federation Account, are applied to the collective and common benefit of all and sundry, and not just sharing to a privileged few, who constitute islands of wealth and affluence amidst oceans of poverty, like godfathers, or as political patronage and reward for cronyism.
We have no godfather but only one God, who is our Father in heaven. I agree with the philosophy of Thomas Frank, when he said,


“Corruption is uniquely reprehensible in a democracy because it violates the system's first principle, which we all learned back in the sunshiny days of elementary school: that the government exist to serve the public, not particular companies or individuals or even elected officials.”

I strongly sense Benue State is about to get Redemption.


The man of integrity will definitely do the Job.

I now remember the late Rev Father Moses Orshio Adasu.


REV FR MOSES ORSHIO ADASU:

A RESOUNDING SUCCESS STORY Rev Fr Moses Adasu's tenure in office as Governor lasted less than two years owing to the fact that the third republic was aborted by Gen Sani Abacha who seized power in November 1993.

That notwithstanding, in the short time he spent as Governor,Rev Fr Adasu remarkably and amazingly achieved so much. His outstanding achievements and enduring legacies are unprecedented and till date have not been matched by any Governor in the state after him.

Below are some of the projects that Rev Fr Moses Adasu conceived, initiated and executed partly or in some cases fully within six months of his tenure;

1. Benue State University (BSU).

2. College of Education,Oju.

3. Benue Furniture Factory (land secured)).

4. New Benue Printing and Publishing Company.

5. Permanent site,College of Education, Katsina Ala (work had started).

6. A new Cement Company in Mbatiav (discussions had begun with Pakistani and other technical partners,work was scheduled to commence soon before his government was prematurely terminated).

7. A Pharmaceutical Company (to be part of Medical Centre at Apir).

8. Yam flour plant.

9. Makurdi Beach and Wonderland (work had started).

10. A Ceramics Company.

11. Alpha Plastics Company (part payment already paid to technical partners).


12. Benue Tourism Board.

13. Agricultural Development Company.

14. Directorate for New Industries (draft bill was ready)

15. A comprehensive water scheme

16. A Professionally Oriented University (Prof Ibu of UniJos donated computers,equipment,etc worth N10 Million)

17. A Paint/Polish Company (discussion were at an advanced stage with technical partners)

18. Domestic/Industrial Starch Company. (discussions started with technical partners)

19. Piggery.

20. Concrete Products Company (BENCO Roof Tiles) -work had started.

21. Glue and Garri Factory Complex

22. General Hospitals for each LGA.

23. Tarred roads linking Local Government headquarters.

24. Youth/Wonem Cultural Centre for all LGAs

25. An International Games Village (work had already commenced on an Olympic sized swimming pool)

26. Centre for Development of Traditional Medicine.

27. BENTHA(Tractor Hiring Agency) to become a limited liability company.

28. A new fertilizer distibution approach.

29. Owner-Occupier Houses for workers.

30. Buruku Model Plantation.

31. A Fruit Juice Factory at Katsina Ala (land acquired).

32. Medical Centre, Apir. (work commenced).

33. JS Tarka Foundation.

34. BNARDA, DFFRI, Rural Division of Ministries of Agriculture,Works to be activated and fully equipped to further open up rural roads.

35. Construction of 30Km of township roads for Makurdi and 20Km of township roads for Gboko and Oturkpo towns.

36. Affordable Labour Tranport Service for Makurdi, Gboko and Oturkpo towns and assistance to LGAs to establish same.

37. 330 KVA National Grid (through Rev Fr Adasu's efforts, contract eventually awarded by the Federal Government).

These were projects and programs within barely a year in office.

Other laudable policies initiated or implemented by him include; a new government- labour policy, a new approach to basic science education and a new media relations policy.

Also appointments were made to reflect state character and to assuage historically neglected areas. For example, for the first time directors-general were appointed from Njiriv, Taraku and Etulo. Also a commissioner was appointed from Turan in Kwande.

Father Adasu implemented people oriented policies and projects that impacted positively on all spheres of the state. He also reopened the College of Education Oju to heal the wounds of its closure in 1984.
