Up until now, it was unheard of for employers, irrespective of location, to employ people to specific lucrative jobs without asking for a University degree requirement. However, as recently reported by the CNBC, some companies, mostly American based, have stopped requiring a University degree when they seek to fill out jobs.

Apparently, these companies have come to terms with the fact that employees could be assets when what they are bringing to the table is not just a certificate, but capability as well as a personal discipline as it relates to exercising the duties expected of them.

The companies that no longer insist on a University degree for prospective employees are as follows; Google, Penguin Random House, Costco, Whole Foods, Hilton, Publix, Apple. Starbucks, Nordstrom, Home Depot, IBM, Bank of America, Chipotle, and Lowe's.

Looking through the list above, one will see that these companies are into consumables, household items, technology, hospitality, literature, finance, which are no different from most of the sectors that are currently offering employment to several Africans on the continent.

However, it is commonplace to see that prior to being employed, the candidate is required to have a University degree nine times out of ten, also, they are required to possess many years of experience, not minding the fact that someone could be skilled in the requirements but may not have had access to a degree or even specified experience.
