What Are the Duties of a Quality Control Tech?

Quality control technicians work in manufacturing companies as members of a quality management team. They are responsible for ensuring that manufacturing processes and products meet a company’s quality specifications. Through their work, they help to minimize waste, improve productivity on the production line and ensure that customers receive products that are fit for use.

Role

The key duties for a quality control technician, according to the American Society for Quality, are to prepare inspection plans and instructions, select sampling plan applications, analyze and solve problems, prepare procedures, train inspectors and perform audits.

Processes

Quality control technicians help develop processes and procedures for quality control. They decide the standards to be achieved, which may involve complying with recognized systems such as the ISO 9000 -- Quality Management system published by the International Organization for Standardization. They train inspectors to carry out checks in line with procedures and audit their work to ensure they comply with the standards. If they identify problems, they recommend improvements.

Data

Collecting the right data is essential to quality control. Technicians define statistical techniques, determine what data needs to be collected through inspection or process monitoring, and analyze results. They interpret the data to identify problems or trends as a basis for planning remedial action.

Inspection

In smaller organizations, quality control technicians may carry out some of the inspections themselves or oversee the work of quality control inspectors. They ensure that incoming raw materials, components or supplies meet agreed standards by carrying out routine inspections and rejecting unsuitable items. They also perform a wide range of controlled tests on products at various stages of the manufacturing process. Tests include visual inspection or non-destructive testing to determine conformance with the product’s specification.

Prevention

Quality control technicians plan corrective and preventive actions to maintain quality standards. They carry out different types of analyses, including root cause analysis and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify the source of problems. They prepare reports and recommendations to deal with any issues that arise.

Qualifications

To carry out their duties, quality control technicians require a minimum of a high school diploma. Those with four years of higher education or work experience can apply to take examinations leading to Quality Technician Certification from the American Society for Quality. Quality control technicians require strong analytical skills and an understanding of statistical techniques. They must have good attention to detail and be familiar with inspection techniques and quality standards.

Interested and qualified applicants should submit their CV'S/ Resumé to Promedgroupsresources@gmail.com on or before 8th Nov 2018.
