Nigeria has dropped a spot on the latest World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking.
The bank released the report themed ‘Doing Business 2019: A Year of Record Reforms, Rising’ on Wednesday.
In the 2017 edition of the report, Nigeria moved 24 places from its 2016 spot of 169 to 145.
In the 2018 edition, Nigeria ranked 146. Mali took Nigeria’s 2017 spot.
The World Bank said it tracked 314 reforms by 128 governments across the world.
“Governments have the enormous task of fostering an environment where entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises can thrive,” said Jim Yong Kim, World Bank Group president.
“Sound and efficient business regulations are critical for entrepreneurship and a thriving private sector. Without them, we have no chance to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity around the world.”
According to the report, a total of 107 reforms were carried out in sub-Saharan Africa, a record for the region.
“Nigeria carried out four reforms which included making Starting a Business easier in Kano and Lagos, the two cities covered by Doing Business,” a regional press release by the bank read.
“Getting Electricity and Trading Across Borders also saw reforms in the two cities. In addition, Lagos made Enforcing Contracts easier by issuing new rules of civil procedure for small claims courts, while Kano, in a negative move, made property registration less transparent by no longer publishing online the fee schedule and list of documents necessary to transfer a property.” https://thenigerialawyer.com/nigeria-drops-on-world-banks-ease-of-doing-business-ranking/

Of course, we expect that.

There was too much government money floating around in individual hands. That gap has been blocked. People have been jailed. Those who did not go to jail are scared to claim ownership of the loot they stowed away in banks. So the ground is dry, and we all feel the dryness....but its temporary. Those with legally owned money will spur the economy back and good money, not stolen money, will float around soon and we will return to plenty and good morals where hardworking people once again become our models and celebrities, not thieves, kidnappers, looters, thugs and drug barons.

We are content even if we drop 10points....failure preceeds success, pain and sacrifice begets joy and happiness.

Joseph gave the king of Egypt a dream of 7years of dryness, followed by 7years of harvest.

Buhari dey kampe!
