Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has described the release of the four kidnapped journalists and their driver as good news to him.
“I give credit to both the police and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), for their steadfastness. It is good news. Journalists in this country are doing wonderfully. That is why in this family we love journalists, and we appreciate the good work they are doing.”

Babangida disclosed that the love for journalists run through the family, pointing out that few days ago, his daughter, Aisha, dedicated an award she received to the kidnapped journalists. “I think it was very thoughtful of her.”
He said a lot more still needed to be done in the area of security in the country.
“This kidnapping thing borders largely on security which is a three-way traffic. The people, the law enforcement agencies and the law itself.”

According to IBB, the people must be security conscious and be eager to report suspicious people and suspicious movements to the police.
“That is why any crime committed in Britain , the culprits will be fished out within one week and this is because people on their own volunteer information to the police.”
The law enforcement agents, he said, must be well-equipped and well-motivated to enable them discharge their statutory responsibilities very well, adding that the law itself should be dispensed with minimum delay.
