Four months after Nigeria took over from India as the poverty capital of the world, the number of Nigerians living with extreme poverty is currently standing at 88,011,759, according to the World Poverty Clock, created by Vienna-based World Data Lab.
According to the World Poverty Clock, “the outlook for poverty alleviation in Nigeria is currently weak,” with nearly six people slipping into extreme poverty every minute, The Cable reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the World Bank, IMF, United Nations, forecast that Nigeria will not hit the 2030 target for ending global poverty.
According to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, 40 percent of the world's poorest people by 2030 would be hosted by West Africa, especially Nigeria.
Legit.ng previously reported that a report by Brookings Institution showed that Nigeria took over from India as the nation with the highest number of extremely poor people.
Recall that India previously held the position with a population of 1.324 billion as against Nigeria's 200 million.
The report indicated that the number of Nigerians in extreme poverty increases by six people every minute.
The report reads: “According to our projections, Nigeria has already overtaken India as the country with the largest number of extreme poor in early 2018, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo could soon take over the number 2 spot.
“At the end of May 2018, our trajectories suggest that Nigeria had about 87 million people in extreme poverty, compared with India’s 73 million. What is more, extreme poverty in Nigeria is growing by six people every minute, while poverty in India continues to fall."

In a previous report by Legit.ng , the lawmaker representing Bayelsa East constituency in the upper chamber, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, suggested that the fastest way poverty can be defeated is for poor people to be educated.
According to him, the more the poor learn, the more they earn and the more they earn, the less children they have and the longer they live.
In a couple of tweets on his Twitter page, the senator noted that his state had moved up the ladder due to its focus on education and urged the country to emulate the move.

This contradicts Buhari's lifeless claim that the economy is doing good under him.

How some people think that a local cattle rearer that have only managed 150 cows over 20years can better the economy amazes me.
