about 200000 bags of foreign rice are smuggled into the country per day, through various states in the northern part of the country, mostly from katsina the presidents state of origin.

smuggling has gone on unnoticed or probably ignored since the ban of foreign rice.

week in week out custom closes down on smuggled rice down south while wealthy alhajis up north are making fortunes for them selves by smuggling this goods from cameroon, chad and Niger republic
and grossly over charging for it

my question is the ban on importation of foreign rice solely for southerners or the Nigerian government going to stand up and do it's job by clapping down on this smugglers seeing that Nigerian made rice is already popular.

what is good for the goose is good for the gander

Don't let what people say decide for you. Lawlessness is in us all, wen given the chance we show it. Every part kd the Country has its own dose of lawlessness. You have to visit the north to know what's up

The fact is that the law gets relaxed when it has to do with the north as against the south. Just like the way JAMB cut off mark favours the north, i think there seem to be unwritten legal/crime cut off mark.

It's situations like this that should make any right-thinking and self-respecting southerner give up on Nigeria! It's one rule for the core northern muslims and another for the the rest of us 'mugus'!

Does anyone think even for a second that a Igbo man, viewed in the core muslim north as being anti-north, would get away with half of what Buhari has gotten away with without them screaming for his head on a platter? Just this certificate issue is enough to see them start impeachment proceedings against him and get him hurled out of Aso Rock by the scruff of his neck!

They come down on oyel bunkerers in the Niger Delta like a ton of bricks, yet turn a blind eye to the same illegal mining done in the north!

Almost every week on the news, i see some core northern muslim customs official working in the 'lucrative south' standing proudly besides some seizure of smuggled goods, waxing lyrical about how the customs will not allow smugglers have any breathing space, yet this same customs is hamstrung in handling the issue of thousands of bags of rice being smuggled through the porous borders in the north!

Anyone that sees nothing wrong with being part of such a dysfunctional set-up like we have in Nigeria has accepted the 'slave' status bestowed on them by the 'owners of Nigeria'! Shikena!!!
