If they're very comfortable spending less than 50kngn for the entire 4 years university tuition, then little wonder nobody takes them seriously. Now i understand why a graduate wouldn't mind settling for a 20k job.

That's just it... some facaulties fees was increased to almost 60k...Even the hostel, from 28k to 50k .a hostel that's in bad condition

Private hostel will be OK, one of my friend stay around tanke bubu & hostel there is 100k per year(electricity charges inclusive). The hostel is tiled, good water supply system, tiled bathroom, kitchen & every other things that makes student comfortable. You can share the hostel with someone & you pay 50k per year.

For those of you saying the school paid 10,000 initially. is it possible for a university in Nigeria to be charging that low?

The 10,000 the poster used for an example is just part of the charges for the section. you pay about four to five different fees which will amount to almost 30k for some facaulties and more than for some.

Now some people are to pay 60.000 from initial 30,000.

The hostels are now 50k.previously 28k.

The increment is not fair....

For the ones asking how the school has been surviving.. Do you know that unilorin have the highest number of applicants every year. They'll sell post ume form for more than 100,000 applicants when available space is less than 10,000 for new intake... They collect acceptance fee from some students and end up not clearing them and taking back the admission.

Well if that's the case then it's pretty unfair compared to other public schools. Did the extra charges increase too? I assumed the lowest tuition in any Faculty would be about 23k plus all the other charges you mentioned amounting to almost 40k? Ok that's not fair.

bro if i am to spend money on transport actually i will spend 250 bt i trek for 30 minute to termimus in the morning and also trek back home again in the evening house rent is 70k bt 3 of us live together to make it easy ... Sch fees is nw ove 30k.... I have to survive on my own throughout last session the money sent to me frm home is nt even upto 10k and i still survive i knw i will still survive this too

What we're looking at here is an increase from peanut to peanut, less than 28USD for a full year's tuition. This shows that the school authorities are actually very considerate and should be appreciated. They understand the state of affairs of the students and decided to review it accordingly.

You guys didn't make it clear earlier enough. Why are the Faculties charging again despite government subsidies? Do they provide anything extra or special for their student's again? The only extra charges apart from Tuition should be departmental and Faculty association fee which is just N1000 in my school(N500 for each) and not even that mandatory and can be dodged.

I don't blame them, I blame the poster that posted what he's not sure of, he passed a false information and people are only reacting to it.

I have a friend who is to pay more than 60k this session. The increment rate is too much.

mtwwww so there is a school like this in Nigeria? where school fees is still affordable. I finished from kogi State University and the school fees is #100,000 and if you don't pay after 2 months of resumption then you will have to pay additional 5000 late registration. The high cost of school fees have led to so many people dropping out of school and at the same time those who are able to pay will not still have the privilege to learn the way they are supposed to because of strike. it will interest you to know that in my four years sojourn in kogi State University I spent 17months at home because of strike.

What This one is not increment now! As at 2003 we started paying N21000 as school fees in my university and its a federal university self. The students should bear with it cos the university tried self maintaining that small amount for all these years.

Lol nobody pays 23k per session in Unilorin. Before I graduated, i was coughing up like 40k and that's minus hostel and one rubbish compulsory Android tab like that. By the time they add together all these things, a student should be readying like 80-100k.

I don't see any sense in govt subsidizing education for starters because it's a scam minding the level of rot in facilities and backwardness in the educational standards of higher institutions. This increment or any other of its like would have made sense if there were noticeable improvements in the School's outlook, ptf funded projects aside.
Moreover, a sudden increment of 100% in tuition fee is still staggering no matter how ridiculous the amount might seem and the students have a RIGHT to protest so far it's conducted peacefully.
And please carry your depressing story about how life is conducted in better climes and go cos this is Nigeria and things are not funny, cos the side-jobs sef no dey and if at all, den no dey pay.
Average citizens shouldn't be totally rid of the little privileges they enjoy because of the gross mismanagent of ppl who are still living fat off them and who also are not ready to adjust their fat pockets to the demands of the economic trends.
Your 23k theory on data monthly doesn't hold water because most students actually learn from Google and not classes Cos it's a known known that the classes are more or less just figure heads.

Go ask your friends from uniben what happened when there was increment in their hostel fees. After Aluta abracadabra, there was slight reduction in the fees.
