There is still The Lion’s Den. I saw a show with the format playing yesterday on Silverbird TV. The creators are not dummies, if the show is making profit they will leave it on the air. Nigerians are the reason the shows are on hiatus, we don’t support things. I commented yesterday on a topic where Nigerians kicked against WWTBAM. How can somebody defend such action? |

this makes no sense, all the shows you just mentioned aren't sponsored by the government so how is the economy affecting them??who wants to be a millionaire is sponsored by mtn who are bigger now than ever, gulder ultimate search is sponsored by gulder who have more beverages than ever,i dont know about the glo stuff but glo is sure soaring high, and mtn project fame?? for Christ's sake can we stop saying things that makes absolutely no sensemtn projects makes more money around the whole of africa and some part of the world than even some foreign shows... so if you think this shows gives free money or something which means if they dont do them it means there is no money think again... the money they give cant be compared to the amount they make at the end of the show..its. just like saying the economy would affect bigbrothernaija infact if the economy is bad thats when this shows would make more gains because there would be depression..people would sit at home and watch this shows... #thinknaija 3 Likes |

Something is wrong... I miss the old Nigeria in terms of good shows on TV.... Like Panadol extra game show, Milo game show, Lotto game show, Maggi cooking program, and all kinds of family show. I mean back then, there was always something exciting to watch on local channels unlike now. |

Sponsorship is mostly for visibility of the brand or sponsor. In this economy, most telcos and potential sponsors of such shows are consolidating or downright minimizing their risks and exposure as pepper nor dey rest like dat for dis now. It's really widespread and your's truly is a first hand witness. MTN get beta gbese to settle. Project Fame running at this dire time will seem awkward. Things like Season of Surprises etc are a better bet right now. 9mobile will be extra careful after the careless loan their predecessor arranged for demselves with its servicing denominated in FX. The writing was on the wall even before the coming of 9mobile as most leaks were being plugged in an attempt to stop the ship from sinking with most sponsorship suffering... PayPorte... hmmm, I can't explain their initial bold foray into BB but it is paying off as dem don swear for us with indecency for Naija (my opinion)... Prior to the show, I had never heard of the brand and I shop online a lot. Maybe just me? But til date, no one has said to my knowledge, "I bought this on PayPorte..." unlike Jumia, Konga, DealDey... Again, maybe just me getting it wrong? Anyway, generally, economy nor swell like dat for now. Plus some have lost their ratings. |

Economy is the least concern of ya president,he does understand the basic principle of demand and supply,so his not concerned. But his second term is his ambitions |

Compliant: Na lie. The rate of alcohol consumption has drastically dropped. People have moved from beer to low cost spirit. 50 naira spirit is the fastest selling for of alcohol in Nigeria now. #Fact 1 Like |

Jayloy: Is that so? Social media is available only in Nigeria? For your information, data is almost free in developed nations. Most mobile phone contracts come with unlimited data, yet they have very rich television programmes including shows. The reason is Nigeria's poor economy - the dwindling fortunes of the local currency has made those shows too expensive. Simply put, the ecoonmy cannot support them...whether however, it was caused by Buhari or those before him, is a matter for another day.. |

Nigerian youths as usual talking without researching to get the true position of things. Did the OP make any attempt to reach individual companies to get their reasons? All of those commenting in favour of the OP's position are just people putting their personal entertainment over a company's profitability. Everything in life has its time and season. Companies rebrand, re strategise and review. A lot of the actions of businesses have external economic influence like the OP is trying to stay but certainly not when a company needs to move beyond certain cost centers and focus on more productive and less expensive targeted advert. "Give me a good browsing network and cheap data and keep your project fame" That's the mindset of todays youth demography and market. |
Re: Why Top TV Shows In Nigeria Stopped by azimibraun: 5:32am On Nov 07, 2018 |
BecaciaBarbie:A lot of the interesting shows you are talking about have moved to YouTube Channels. Anything you want, you get on YouTube. But you have got to have "Life" sorry Data. I watch Glo's Professor John Bull on YouTube becouse its hard form me to catch up on NTA. People dont have TV time as such. Nigerians now look to their phones for entertainment in short videos and ads and look to watch serious News on Channels tv and its mainly headline news o! The times have changed. Massive TV programs by companies will extinct. Its the season of the social media. People don't watch Big brother on DSTV but watch the short clips on YouTube and go ahead to comment and even vote. Abi I lie? Businesses are doing serious research to cut cost and meet the customers half way. |
