The Lagos State Government has concluded arrangements to engage the services of 2,000 undergraduates and unemployed graduates for the Enterprise Registration and Identification Agents (ENTRIDA) programme.

At least, over N57 million has been earmarked for the programme which kicks off next month across the state.

Those employed are expected to comb the streets of Lagos to enumerate business enterprises for the purpose of adequate planning by government.

Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Prince Adeniyi Oyemade, who disclosed this yesterday called on undergraduates and unemployed graduates in the state to go to the commerce ministry between now and Friday to obtain application forms for the exercise.

According to him, the government will be engaging 2,000 undergraduates and 40 supervisors to identify and enumerate corporate organisations and enterprises across the state for eight weeks and will spend over N57 million.

“Each agent will be paid N10,000 allowance per month and N1,000 as transport allowance per week while each supervisor will also collect N10, 000 monthly,” he said, adding that the exercise will commence on 2 August and end on 24 September, 2010.

Oyemade said the exercise became necessary to get adequate and correct data bank of business enterprises and review the existing Lagos Business Directory, otherwise known as “Yellow Pages.”

“The primary purpose of data generation of businesses in the state is for economic planning and youth empowerment through provision of jobs for the teeming youths, particularly the undergraduates,” he added.

Oyemade disclosed that in the last exercise, 250,000 enterprises were enumerated across the state, adding that the new directory will be sold for N3,000.
