Aggrieved ex militants laid siege at the entrance of the Delta State Government House in demand for better welfare.

The protest which took place today drew youths from different ethnic groups in the State who carried placards with inscriptions; “Do not Let us to go back to the Creeks”, and ” President Buhari Help us, We Do not Want to go Back to Militancy”.

One of the protester who identified himself simply as General H and M said that they have been protecting the oil pipelines for more than two years which had in turn boost crude oil production but however regretted that their allowances have not been reviewed upwards by the government.

” They asked the host community to work in collaboration with ex- militants to ensure peace. We have hearkened to this call for the past two years. We are even begging them to increase our salaries since oil production has increased because of the relative peace in the area.

“We are appealing to the Federal Government and everyone in charge of our welfare to look into our condition.

“Our promise has been kept, let them keep theirs” he said.

In his response, the State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa thanked the protesters for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner while protesting.

The Governor who was represented by the State Attorney General, Mr Peter Mrakpo promised to look into the issue with a view to sustaining peace in the oil producing area.
