Barely two weeks after Governor Udom Emmanuel inaugurated the Chief Patrick Ekpotu-led Integration and Harmonization Committee, which is saddled with the responsibility of reconciling aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who aspired during the last primary elections of the party. The Committee, after due consultation with respective concerned stakeholders, has on the 8th November, 2018, commenced its activities. Ikono and Mkpat Enin Local Government Areas came first in their schedule followed by Nsit Atai today.

Addressing the former aspirants and concerned stakeholders of the party from the respective Local Government Areas, at the Government House, Uyo, Chief Ekpotu said his Committee was poised to engage in a reconciliation process where all interests are integrated and harmonized for the needed unity, peace and love to thrive for the common purpose of strengthening PDP for the forthcoming elections. He added that reconciliation plays a pivotal part in the rebranding and repositioning process of the party as initiated and spearheaded by the State Governor and the leadership of the party at all levels.
Chief Ekpotu, who reiterated Governor Udom Emmanuel’s commitment and devotion to reunite and strengthen the party, said he was optimistic that PDP will coast to victory in the forthcoming elections. He stressed that with the recent amendment of section 49 of the Electoral Act, which provides thus “the presiding officer shall use a smart card reader or any other technological device that may be prescribed by the Commission from time to time for accreditation of voters, to verify, confirm or authenticate the identity of the voters,” no stone will be left unturned. He maintained that the reconciliation exercise was apt, timely and that with the corporation, compliance and impressive attendance of those concerned, success was imminent. He also added that the amendment of the Electoral Act indicates that Nigeria has gone past the era of election rigging.
The Chairman of the Committee recounted the various gains and losses of a peaceful, harmonious and integrated coexistence in any organization and encouraged the aggrieved aspirants to sheathe their swords of anger. He pledged the Committee’s resolve to make favourable recommendations that will sure accommodate all interests, harmonize and integrate them for the purpose of building a formidable family that will rationally face the 2019 elections. He admonished them to in turn encourage their supporters to refrain from engaging in activities that will tarnish the image of the party.
The former aspirants, while presenting their grievances, expressed their gratitude to Governor Udom Emmanuel for deeming it fitting to constitute the strategic committee.
They commended the PDP, whose platform they stood to aspire to their various positions, for the peaceful conduct of the elections, adding that they have unanimously agreed to work together for the victory of all its candidates at all levels.
