Then there is population growth.

In 1991...Nigeria had 89million people...now we have 200million people.

Fulanis have been migrating down south for decades....the difference now is that there are more people. Land that was fallow..is now tilled permanently. And there are more cows. And both sides use archaic farming methods.

Plus...the Sahara issue is just one of the things...there is the Boko Haram issue.

Afforestation has been an ongoing issue...but in this case,it isn't just Nigeria...it is an ECOWAS matter...and it won't neccesarlily stop migration of herders. (That needs a strong cultural change...and as you can see, even the most extreme case of ranches being established in the South for fulanis is opposed by most of them...they want to keep on moving).

One other solution...railways.During the colonial times,and into the 1960's....cows wereincreasingly being transported by rail. That ended by the 1980's. Hopefully, we could do that again...with the ongoing rail reform.
