John Hartson says Arsenal must go for players like Gareth Bale if they want to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

Life under Unai Emery has started fairly well for the Gunners have won eleven games on the trot and going unbeaten in the last 13 fixtures, which is a far cry from the side that finished way down in sixth last season.

Emery has improved the back-line and midfield over the summer transfer window and all indications suggest that his new signings are enjoying life in the Premier League.

But there are still many questions in the media which all claim that Arsenal are well behind the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the chase for the Premier League title, as they simply do not have the squad to compete throughout the whole season.

And Hartson, has claimed that they need to sign players like Bale in the coming transfer windows to be considered one of the favourites for the Premier League title, he was quoted on [url]icfootballnews[/url]: “No disrespect to Arsenal, if say for arguments sake, a Gareth Bale becomes available [they won’t go in]. I know he’s ex-Spurs and it may not happen.

“But if a top player like that became available and he’s £95m with £40m wages over the next four years, will they go in for him? They might not.”

Bale is currently the subject of intense transfer speculation, with rumours the Madrid hierarchy see him as a disposable member of the squad, having not seen the best of the Welshman on a consistent basis.
