An NGO dedicated to building communities that build the nation, Benjamin Kalu Foundation (BKF) has commenced the emergency repair of Bende rural roads, which started at all important Umuahia Bende Ohafia road leading to the headquarters of Bende LGA and a hate way road to Abam, Ohafia, Abiriba including Itumbauzo and Akwa Ibom State.

This was necessitated by the prolonged wait for government intervention on this road. The Director programs and projects of the Foundation, Hon Emmanuel Trump Eke, had secured an approval from the founder of the Foundation, Chief Benjamin Kalu, to commence the fixing of this road at the beginning of September but was waiting for the rains .

This portion of the road has been bad for ten years with no attention given to it and became a death trap to especially the users and the communities around it.

At the point of filing in this report 60 trips of laterite have been dropped by heavy trucks and other machines waiting to move in to save this road from collapse.

Benjamin Kalu Foundation has also executed similar projects in various Bende LGA communities including using funds from the foundation to fix the Umuimenyi Nkpa bridge a while ago, making it motorable.

These initiatives by the BKF have been seen by the people of Bende as a sign that Chief Benjamin Kalu cares for the community.

According to the group of youths who spoke to our correspondents, “this man is a different kind of politician, in fact if all leaders behave like him Nigeria will be a better place. He simply cares for his community and our people . Are you aware that he has applied and gotten approval to repair our High court building abandoned for years that no judge wants to sit there currently. His Foundation have started skeletal work there to enable the court resume sitting within a year?”
