Ladies and gentleman, when was DSS empowered to investigate cases of bribery and other corruption cases within a political party.

When a state security service takes over the job of EFCC/ICPC,then we should know that they have been hired for a quick hatchet job.

EFCC/ICPC can employ the services of DSS to accompany and provide adequate security to its staff ,when going to arrest a suspect .

But the recent bribery case of the APC chairman is quite worrisome.

Please the essence of this topic is to inform and never to justify any act of corruption .

The DSS is unilaterally investigating a bribery case and also asking the chairman to resign!
It has also purportedly submitted a report!

According to the law establishing DSS/SSS:

The State Security Service shall be charged with responsibility for-

(a) the prevention and detection within Nigeria of any crime against the internal security of Nigeria;

(b) the protection and preservation of all non-military classified matters concerning the internal security of Nigeria; and

(c) such other responsibilities affecting internal security within Nigeria as the National Assembly or the President, as the case may be, may deem necessary.

(4) The provisions of subsections (I), (2) and (3) of this section shall have effect
notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary, or any matter therein
mentioned.

(5) In this section, “classified matter” has the same meaning assigned thereto in
section 9 of the Official Secrets Act.
