Why Are My Coconut Trees Breaking At The Top? by IrokoOluwere: 8:12pm On Nov 21, 2018 |
I really don’t understand. I came home one day about a month ago.only to find one of my coconut trees broken at the top . Around where new leaves shoot out . The tree then dried up and I burned it . I was actually wondering what happened to it . And I thought it was the storm or something. Someone said it was thunder that struck it . Idk Then today again . I came home to find another coconut tree broken at the top again ! Rain did not fall and there was no storm . But then it’s probably a disease or something ... it’s late now . I will add pictures of the broken tree tomorrow. Who knows about this please ? These trees are at least 10 years old . It remains just one tree now . I don’t wanna lose the last one . I feel so bad |

Sorry for your losses I think that's the aftermath effect of rhinoceros beetle eating through the fresh leaves. I noticed this with the palm trees in our compound back then. Dad will have to dig out the beetle from the middle leaf and the palm tree will later resume it's growth but that leaf will be deformed. I hope this was helpful or it's a total different thing entirely |

IrokoOluwere:That's bad The effect by the beetle mostly do not cause the death of the coconut tree, but this I think is a different thing. You can probably check up the diseases and pests of coconut trees, hopefully you will get something 1 Like |

Let no one dupe or decieve you my friend, whenever a palm wevil bore hole at the core meristem of a coconut or oilpalm to lay eggs the maggots will feed on the young shoots. It will lead to systemic dryout. |

happybrother:Thanks for your response to the topic, One bad experience is not enough reason to generalize, cos hasty generalisation lead to wrong conclusions, First and foremost no body is swindling anyone, It true that red palm wevil is responsible, Should we allow the pest to continue the damage on the palms ? The answer is no. I have not requested that the man pay or something to warrant all this noise, please Mr man check my signature on Nairaland especially on the Agric section and be convinced that Iam for real...Counless number of people have benefited from my assistance .One love.... |
