Film and Video Censors Board visits Cinemas

The management of Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) as part of its oversight functions paid a working visit to Cinemas in Lagos recently.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Bamidele Balogun who led the team said inspection of cinemas is a continuous exercise as the State Government is particular about the standard of cinemas in Lagos.

He said “Lagos is the hub of Nigerian Film Industry and known to always set the pace, therefore whatever we do in Lagos must be of international best practice”, adding that the purpose of the inspection was to ensure conformity with the standards set by State Government for Cinemas.

Balogun affirmed that the standard safety measures in cinemas are not negotiable, as the lives and safety of the citizens are very key to the State Government, noting that the present administration places a premium on the standard of cinemas as part of its total commitment to the development of Arts and Creativity.

According to him, some of the safety measures which must be put in place include functional fire extinguishers, fire stands, functional air conditioners to prevent suffocation, at least one entrance and one exit in every hall among others.

He also emphasised the need for cinemas to strictly adhere to the age specifications on viewing of films in order to prevent child delinquency and exposure of children to immorality, insisting that cinemas must always have a sign to indicate the age limits for viewers of any particular film.

The Executive Secretary stated that the Agency would pay regular unscheduled visits to cinemas to ensure that standards are not compromised whilst assuring that the State Government remains committed to safety in all film houses.
