According to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS),
currently over 61.6 percent of young people are unemployed
in Nigeria, while at the same time employers are reporting
a critical skills shortage with less than half able to find
enough skilled entry level workers. Although most people
agree, however, only 45% believes their qualification so
far has adequately prepared them for work – clearly
demonstrating an 'employability gap' between employers'
requirements and the focus of education programs.

With the current high standard of living, even being employed
does not guarantee a comfortable living, in-fact, the monthly
salary is not sufficient for all expenses at the end of the day.

I was discussing with a friend of mine who just got inducted
as a Chartered (ACA) last year, he was lamenting about how much
he has spent in the last 2 months, cost of paying children fees, house rent, high cost of
feeding, taking care of your wife and family, and having nothing
left for yourself from that Salary. According to him, he said he
thought the ACA certificate will automatically open doors for
him and give him three times his income, but to his surprise, more
is required by employers.

The last interview he went for in one
of the top oil company in the country, yes, his CV and
qualification got him to the interview and he was doing very
well with the orals and theory, however, the last stage of the
interview was purely for practical on his use of Advanced excel,
Financial Modeling and an Accounting
Software, unfortunately, he lacks this basic
skills ......The HR of the company kept asking 'how will an
ACA not know how to use the basic accounting software,
why then are you moving around with a certificate? he said
the questions left him speechless and ashamed because he
lost his dream job.

Then he remembered I once offered him
some personal development trainings that contained this basic
skills before he became an ACA, but he felt there was no need
for those skills since he was already working on being an ACA
at the time but I regret ignoring your advice which has cost me
more than I thought.

Actually, I feel very sorry for him and the truth is that, I don't
blame him because our environment sometimes don't encourage
us to make investment in Knowledge due to several material
temptations everywhere and all the expenses that chokes our neck.
Infact, I fall into that temptation often times until I determined to
discipline myself.

These basic knowledge (personal development) will triple your
chances of succeeding in life. We have recorded all this trainings
with free softwares and workbook for you to practice with to enable
you go back, work on yourself and rapidly climb the career ladder
because Competition is fierce. Its only those who grab the opportunity
to develop their employability skills that will stay ahead of the
competition.

P.S: Just like I advise my friend to learn the skills so that he could be prepare
for any opportunity, why don’t you go ahead and learn these skills
and catapult your career to that next level of success you have always crave for.

To your life Success,
Tayo Stephen.
