The Senate was today stunned by the acts of signatures forgery of its members by the Senators. This was blown open today when the Senate considered the report on one of its committee, Senate Committee on Communications on the screening of the nominees for the board of Nigeria Communications Commission, (NCC). The report which allegedly was signed seven senators was later discovered to have been signed by three senators who confirmed their signatures on the report, while the remaining four signatures on the report were not signed by the senators presumed to have signed the document.
The chairman of committee on communication, Sylvester Anyanwu who had earlier presented to the Senate the report of the screening committee came under criticism when it became obvious that the screen of NCC board member which was allegedly suppose to have taken place yesterday (Wednesday) did not hold.
A member of the committee, Senator Abubakar Argungu informed the senate that he was surprise to discover that the screening which did not hold at all was considered to have been held. This prompt the curiosity of the Senate president, David Mark to pose questions ascertain if the screening was actually held. When it became obvious that the credibility of the screening was in doubt, David Mark announced the disbandment of the Committee on Communications and order the selection committee to reconstitute the committee with credible senators.
The screen which was allegedly carried out was however cancelled and a fresh one was conducted.
Meanwhile, the senate confirmed the nominations of Engr. Peter Igoh from Benue State as the Executive Chairman of NCC, Dr Eugene I Juwah from Delta state as the Vice Chairman, Chief Okechukwu Itanyi from Enugu State and Alhaji Mohammed M. Bintube as Executive Commissioner and non- Executive Commissioner respectively.
