In 2018, the year has been laced with series of slangs made popular by music videos, movies, internet or comic skits.
Here is the breakdown of slangs popularized in 2018

Assurance: Davido is the King of Assurance! Social media went Berserk after his birthday gift of a 45 Million Naira Porsche to girlfriend Chef Chioma in May. This gave birth to the slang and all girlfriends wanted a piece of it!

Na Dem Dey Rush Us: made popular by Charles Inojie of popular comedy series, THE JOHNSONS after the meme went viral in August through Social media, especially Twitter and Instagram.

Accolade: The month of March was definitely one to remember as it was the month of Accolades. Charles Okocha made this phrase popular after he released his viral video on instagram. Kudos Charles! You have paid your dues and paid in full too (laughs)

Everything Stew: this slang began in October this year and was originated by Wizkid and Tiwa Savage after the release of his hit single FEVER!
Which featured Tiwa as the vixen. This video fired up social media following the rumored affair the duo is having.

This one weak me: This is quite one of the most trendy slang on the internet. It is used to show a high level of amusement; it could be a funny picture of someone, video, or meme on the internet

Oshaprara\Oshapropro: Made popular by Nigerian Artistes- even D’banj chanted it several times in its hit song titled “issa Banger”. Everywhere you go now, you hear people paying tribute to the slang. O sha pra pra/propro refers to something that is fresh or looks befitting.

Something just happened right now: if you are talking about Instagram best comedians you can’t fail to mention Lasisi Elenu. This slang became popular due to his consistent use of this catch phrase.

Oya hit me: Try to be safe and not to get punched (Laughs). This slang nonetheless is here to stay as its originator, Broda Shaggi has made it his trademark to the extent that a song has been made of it.

Importanter: you may not know who Singer Zamo is….but this slang is one that has come to stay. After the release of his single “Importanter” social media has become the home of this trendy slang as people and celebs begin to make captions using the slang.

Ji masun: DMW newest signee, idowest got the street on a standstill after the release of his hit single “ji Masun” in August and ever since then it has stuck. “JI Masun” means Wake Up! Don’t Sleep!
