Faith Without Works

"Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone" (James 2:17).

A Christian farmer in western Kansas felt sure that God spoke to him to give his $40,000 hail insurance to missions. So, in faith he gave the money, trusting that God would protect his crop. Sure enough, the hail came and severely damaged all his neighbour's crops, but not his.

In contrast, there is a well-known story about a brilliant tightrope artist named Blondin, who pushed a wheelbarrow across Niagara Falls. After he had walked to the other side, the crowd roared with applause at his amazing feat. He asked a small boy in the crowd if he believed that Blondin could walk back. The boy said, "Yes, sir!" He then asked if the boy thought he could do it with him in the wheelbarrow. The boy said he believed he could do it, to which the famous tightrope walker said, "Good! Jump in then and I will take you!" The boy would not get in.

Here are two different types of faith. The farmer had faith that he had heard from God; he was so sure that he was prepared to step out. But the boy's faith was (understandably) lacking; he wasn't prepared to step out, and get in. Many sincere folks have a measure of faith in Jesus, but they have never trusted in Him. In that sense, their faith, because it doesn't have works with it, is dead.

The faith that is without works is not true faith, it isn't true faith gone bad.

I mean those who profess faith in Jesus and the Gospel but that an empty/vain profession, which does not prove itself to be true/genuine by an outward transformation. The set of people in the Apostle's mind in James 2 and in Jesus' mind in Matthew 7:21-23.

Faith without WORK is dead. The WORKS under consideration are those not guided by laws or based on WORKS of law. No law was ever made to Rahab to treat the spies from Israel with hospitality but what She did was counted as WORKS. It was the faith that pushed her to attend to the spies hospitably. That led to salvation for her household.
Luke 5:17-20 another fine example of FAITH based not on WORKS of law. To get to Jesus Christ they are expected to pass through the door or gate where Jesus was preaching. They were unable to do so but rather did the unexpected by going through the roof of the building which is illegal to some extent. That was what Jesus discern that made him utter the staement your faith has made you well
