The Nigerian Governments agriculture POLICY IS A TOTAL FAILURE and is deceitful. The government is encouraging the masses to go into agriculture as a mere means for their survival and not for real business and then claim it is empowering the poor. You cannot empower the poor by simply giving them seeds to plant on their ancestral land or in their back yard. Empower them by organizing them into cooperatives, provide land for them in the same area to form a massive continuous land mass, have farm equipment such as tractors, plough machines, harvesters etc rent able at a cheap rate, most importantly provide subsidies and grants to investors to build factories within 20 miles of these industrial farms.

The legal Importation/smuggling of rice will only stop when the rice industry can produce on an enormous scale, in efficient and technology driven manner with government encouraging policies that will drive private business and farmers to beat countries Nigeria currently imports from.

Anything short of this is purely lying and dumb propaganda, let these officials say this at the FAO or any world economic forum and see what lying fools they will come cross as.

As usual Jessam is fully in support of the creation of modern, industrialized agriculture businesses not just mere farms
