It has been reported that a young man was shot in the leg, allegedly by a policeman, when he joined the driver of a bus he was travelling in, and other passengers, to plead with the policeman who had detained them at a checkpoint in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
A video of the incident was shared by a Facebook user, Martina John (Tinasoft) late on Sunday. She revealed that the shooting happened on Friday, at 4:15pm while she was travelling to Port Harcourt.
Martina claims that policemen had stopped the bus she was travelling in at a checkpoint in Rumuoji before Choba, and asked the driver for his driver’s licence, which he provided. However, he was unable to provide the tinted glass permit, claiming that his employer didn’t give him.
At this point, Martina says, one of the policemen at the checkpoint threatened the driver of the bus. That was when the passengers came down to plead with the policeman to let them go.
The policeman shot the young man in the leg, Martina claims. They later took him away in their vehicle without informing other passengers where they were taking their victim.
