As another calendar year comes to an end, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are, once again, neck and neck in the scoring charts.

The on-field rivalry between the two superstars dates back to 2009, when the Portuguese arrived at Real Madrid and, as it stands, continues until today, despite his departure to Juventus.



Messi is currently LaLiga Santander's top scorer with 14 goals, while the former Real Madrid forward follows him closely with 11 goals in his first Serie A season.

Adding up his games with the Blaugrana and the Argentinian national team, Messi has reached the 50-goal mark for the eighth time in his career, while Ronaldo has scored 46 in 2018.

In the last decade, the Juventus star has managed to hit the back of the net 542 times, while Messi has scored 567 times.

This year, only Lewandowski and Salah come close to the aforementioned duo - with 45 and 41 respectively - followed by Harry Kane with 38 and Luis Suarez with 37.
