Thursday, 05 August 2010

Nigeria’s foreign Minister Henry Odein Ajumogobia resumed talks on Wednesday- with top US government officials on a possible US presidential visit to Nigeria soon, Empowered Newswire reports from Washington DC.

Informed Washington DC sources confirmed on Wednesday, that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Ajumogobia will talk most importantly among other issues about a possible visit to Nigeria soon by President Barack Obama.

For some time the issue of a possible Obama visit to Nigeria has been a silent but constant underlay in the diplomatic exchanges between Nigeria and the US especially after then Acting President Goodluck Jonathan honored Obama’s invitation to attend the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington in April this year.

After Jonathan’s meeting with Obama, several top US government officials had visited Nigeria and the US-Nigerian Bi-National Commission had also hosted meetings both in Nigeria and the US, further fuelling an improving US-Nigeria diplomatic relationships.

An authoritative source confirmed that the current meeting between Ajumogobia and different US government officials including Clinton and Ambassador Johnnie Carson, the US top diplomat in charge of Africa at the State Department, will review the issue of a potential Obama visit to Nigeria.

If he doesn't want to visit, then he doesn't want to visit. Ghana is already darling of West Africa. Nigeria is just seen as a beast. Ghana = Beauty - Nigeria = Beast. . . Beauty & the Beast

Wasn't there already news of him 'visiting' earlier this year? And when he was first inaugurated as well? I'm American, but I don't see what's so special about Obama visiting Nigeria. I bet he'd just talk about what all world leaders say "Nigeria needs to get its house in order, and ensure that come 2011 that free and fair elections are held." Don't you get tired of hearing that?
